Dipole - 4 ohm in series or 8 ohm in parallel? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of building a couple of W-frame dipole subs using Custom Acoustic's IB15 sub - $100 each.

I don't have an amp yet... but it won't likely be a plate amp, which would take up a little more room in the W-frame (SAF is important). I will probably power them initially using a generic SS amp/receiver I've got lying around, with a 11-band equalizer, running each sub off one amp channel.

SO:

I can order the IB15's in 4 or 8 ohm versions. Assuming my amp will handle either 4 or 8 ohm load, am I better off to order 4 ohm and wire them in series (giving me a 8 ohm load per sub) or get 8 ohm and wire them parallel (4 ohm total load per sub)?

Thx!!

No contest. 8's in parallel.
