A new clock mod for cd723 - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi,

I was looking at the saa7378 datasheet and I saw that we can use a 33.8688Mhz clock with it. it allows to disable the saa7378 internal pll, that is a good thing.

You have to put the pin13 (selpll) of the saa to ground. To do this, i cut the line and i solder pin 12 (gnd) and 13 of the saa together.

I removed the quartz, the 2 22pF caps and plug the oscillator.

And... IT WORKS !!

if someone who's already using a 8.4672Mhz tentlab oscillator wants to try the mod, It would be nice to see the results.

Does it improve sound? Is it wothwhile?

yes it improves the sound, at least as much as a standard clock update. There are more details and the highs are sweeter. the stereo image is better too.

My 723 starts to sound really good
