Solo 206 drawings - Click HERE for Original Thread

Tere,

I'm planning to buy Fostex FE206E drivers.
According to Fostex, FE206Es are built for back loaded horn type of enclosure.

Fostex proposal is http://www.fostexinternational.com/...6e_enclrev.pdf.
But those are too big ... will not look good in my living room.

I know about http://home.hetnet.nl/~geenius/Solo206.html.
Can I buy or get exact drawings of Solo 206 cabinets ?

Or maybe there is more horns with exact drawings for FE206E ?

Thank You

I just e-mailed the guy and got a nice big file in return that printed out to about 3/4 size.

Mhmh, there is a message in Humble Homemade Hifi page that -> "Humble Homemade Hifi will be having a time-out from Friday 29-10-2004 until Monday 03-01-2005."

Also I can't find an e-mail address !
Can You help jlsem ?

Thank You !

Miku,

I also have the plans if you didn't get them from Molekuul.

At first I planned to build the Solo206, but ended up building the Fostex's recommended BL after all.

Hi all, I couldn't edit my previous reply. I don't have the Solo206 plans anymore, I've moved and the plans were on another computer and didn't remember to upload them to anywhere.

Here is a slightly revised plan for the solo206, slightly cleaner look and smoother mouth...may not make much difference but I find it makes a little more sense.

Email me if you want the full size bitmap version.

Here's an interesting design for the FE206E. If it fired out of the front, I'd give it a shot myself. http://www.diy-systems.com/en-us/pg_84.html

Hi all,

I am also interested in the plans.

Who could send them to me?

I do have the solo206 plans...but they are on an old drive that crashed. I'm in the prcess of recovering the data, but it's taking some time frankensteining that thing together. I'll get them up on my web page as soon as I get them out.

I think the way you made the horn mouth looked better. Did it sound ok using the MDF ? Why did you get rid of it ?
Alain Dupont
As I am working on it too...

I think I have the Solo 206 plan ; I wrote to the author, and he sent it to me.

Solo-206_CAD.PDF

PS: I am working on a slight modification ; going for 20 to 30 liters first chamber
to go lower down to 23/27 Hz at -3db

The other design is from Mr Valarcher {PV Acoustics} with 2 enclosures joined
by a bypass ... the second volume with a vent. The first 31 liters, second 214 liters FE206E going down to 23.5 Hz at -3db ; flat from 28Hz Up -0.5 db

Regards.

Alain.

Yes, I made the mouth look a lot like Alain's take on it (one more bend though). It did sound okay with mdf, a little muddy in the mid-bass compared to a multi-ply horn. I got rid of it to try something else, I can only hold on to a few designs at a time before my home gets too cluttered. I'll give horns a go once more when I move to a bigger home; I want to try something rather... well... huge.

BTW, if you (whomever), like Alain, eMail Tony for the plans he'll surely send you a hi-res copy. I'm not having much luck with or time for ressurecting my old HD. I'm being swamped with personal tragedies...I hope s*** comes in three's like they say, I can't bear any more for now.

There's a lot of JPEG artifacting in the image. I can't make out any of the dimensions.

Hope you don't mind Illusus. I had this pic of your Solo206 but couldn't attach it here so I posted it to FRF and linked. Definitely a better shaped mouth. What are you listening to now ?
I don't understand how Alain can enlarge the filter chamber, what's the science behind that ? Doesn't that unload the driver ?
Alain Dupont
squalor,

I am using Martin J King software, plus an other source to go lower in frequency...
That is, be able to go down to 30 Hz with still 90/92 Db ; and to do so
I enlarge the volume of the chamber .

The goal is to reach about 30 liters and have a nice Freq response
flat from 28Hz Up at -0.5 db ; take a look at the curve attached.

Regards.

Alain.

Squalor,

The curve...

I've been studying horns for about two months; everything I thought I knew just had a wrench thrown in it. I guess Onur and Klang were on to something.

Don't mind at all. I took that pic during my fit check. Later on I added some Baltic Birch braces in the mouth and replaced some of the MDF dividing panels with BB after finding some left-overs from another project.

At the moment, I'm listening to some big Basszilla-like speakers, FE-166ES-R in open baffle sitting on top of JBL E-140 in large-ish vented enclosures, Aurum Cantus G3 tweeters filling in the top. The ES-Rs are de-whizzered and phase plugged...wow, what a midrange. the whole thing is about to be bi-amped with active XOs replacing the passive stuff, i'll close off the vented bass bins and use a Linkwitz Transform Circuit with them. I toyed with LTCs for some time and find that, when executed properly, the bass is very balanced; tight like a dipole, dynamic as a horn and lower than vented. The whole thing is a work in slow progress.

I still have some horns to play with, but much smaller than the Solo, my own design but close to the Buschorn MKII, a lot longer anyway. sOund satisfying with some RatShack fe-103s. I drew them full scale and built at the same time so no plans, sorry.

Hello all,
I just found several nice galleries solo 206 cabinets:

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/bunip/trombe/index.htm

http://www.audiocostruzioni.com/a_d...to/solo-206.htm

http://photos.naples.net/index.cfm?...ew&albumsid=439

I emailed Tony Gee for hi-rez copies, but didn't get reply yet. If someone has them, please email me them zzzacko eta gmail.com

Did you use some paint for inner sides of cabinet? Or it is necessary for wool or other sound absorbent in horn?
doug_olitsky
here is the blue print for the Solo-206 as a .DWG and a .DXF file. It has 3 layers angles, dimensions, enclosure.

Hey Doug,

There's just empty drawings in the zip file. :bawling:

(or am i doing something wrong) :xeye:
robertvalk
have you tried opening it with autocad? My pc wanted to but i still have to get my licence.
doug_olitsky
I made a new zip file but its 163k+ and the system won't let me load it so however wants it just let me know and I'll send it directly to you.

The new file has updates on the acoustic stuffing

The .dxf and .dwg files are the same just different formats to suit your drawing package. There are 3 levels to the file
1) Drawing
2) Dimensions
3) Angles

HOWEVER--- when you open the file your software may choose an unsused level and will appear as a blank page. USE the level control feature of your software to see the levels I created.

Any questions feel free to drop a line

Hello

Can I use a Mordaunt Short, DSB 208 woofer to do the Solo206 horn loudspeaker ?

I have a pair of those DSB 208 woofer.

I would use a separated tweeter.

Here's the DSB 208 woofer ;

http://www.eastmarinedrive.com/audio/images/ms/dsb1.jpg

And the spec of the Mordaunt Short Peageant using the DSB 208 woofer, but I don't of have the spec
the DSB 208 woofer alone.

http://www.eastmarinedrive.com/audi.../ms/pagdata.jpg

Btw, anyone do have the spec the DSB 208 woofer alone ?

Thank
