Do you build a tape recorder or just upgrading an existing one? I intended to build a tape recorder from this industrial set:

It is a very heavy cast iron chassis rig, with optical tape tension control, 8 speeds, 3 motors. Originally it recorded with FM modulation on 4 channels. I purchased Woelke heads (those used in Revox B78) and a Revox oscillator/bias PCB.

As it used to be, I abandoned the project due to lack of time...
