Could someone design a DIY TV tuner? I want to listen to TV on PC monitor and only have a composite & s-video to VGA box. I'm doing electronics as an hobby and don't know how to design something. :bawling:
Alps build some TV tuners, but I don't know what to do of the 4/5 pins other than ground, 5v, video out and audio out(Some have others than V and Aud out). I also wonder how they output stereo sound out of these things.

They also build some FM tuners with L-chan and R-chan audio outputs. |

| How about just using a VCR as a tuner, and plugging the composite out on it into your vga box? You can probably get a VCR with a broken tape mechanism on trash day or at the dump;) |

| The only VCRs I know are either mono or shutting down because of a fault somewhere. :dodgy: (Stupid self-diagnistics . . .) |

| I remember seeing several Stereo Toshibas on ebay, in scarbrough, ontario, fully functioning, with remote, and a buy it now for $25 |

| I would want a tv tuner too but small enough to fit in the space left in the box i built for my sharp tft. |

How about this? Its small, has a remote, and can be powered by 12 volts, so you can have one big powersupply for both a panel and fans and tuner. The price is right.

This box might be one of the crappy-unknown-china-company-thing-with-loose-plastic-and-tons-of-unuseful-features-with-a-poor-result
things you can get. |

| It´s also too big to fit in my screen case. |

| Just buy a tv-card for you computer. Most om them (make sure before you buy) also have s-video and composite in, so you can connect game consoles and vcrs to you computer and then send the image to the projector :) |

Just a problem for the capture card, the computer next to that screen:
Pentium 150MHz non-MMX
64MB(!) EDO RAM
Diamond Stealth Video 1(S3 868) 512KB VRAM
I'll do a 6$ 200MHz MMX upgrade to it, one day.
BTW, I run Windows 2000 on this.
So, you see, I have all(sarcasm) the requirements for a capture card, speed and video card talking.
If you prefer, I could buy a 20$ P2 400MHz with a 20$ mini mainboard (ONE PCI connector)and a 15$ ATX power supply.
And if I put a PCI bridge, I'll have no more place for my ISA SB16Pro and ISA REAL modem. :D
At least, it uses REAL hardware(DOS works on this). |
