| My diy projector is in a plywood cabinet. I am using a 400w metal halide lamp. I have two 80 mm comp fans blowing air in at the top just behind the lcd panel. I have one 120mm comp fan blowing air out at the back of the cabinet. I have two panes of glass between the lamp and the panel. Temperature goes up to 130 deg. F at the panel. I have not left the projector on longer than that temperature. Any ideas for better cooling? |

Some pics of your setup might give people a better idea of how you have the fans placed matey...then you may get some more input regarding your cooling issues..even a diagram if you dont have pics
Just a thought...

sriggs... Nice projector buddy, My appologies I overlooked the fact that you quoted your temperature in fahrenheit appologies us backward Aussies use celcius hehe, 130 degrees F is 54 degrees celcius. I believe this is acceptable maybe others might not but i would be happy with that myself. I would be confident adding another fan at the rear would drop your temps somewhat, also what size power supply is running your 3 fans? I read on another forum a fella was having similar probs to you, turned out the power supply was inadequate and wasn't running his fans at full speed another fan at the rear would drop your temps also if you are worried about them.
Hope this helps and maybe others can be of more assistance, again well done on the projector |

| Thanks for the compliment Hillbilly. After I posted the pics, my son disconnected the 80mm fans and the 120 speed increased. So, as you suggested, I did not have adequate power to run 3 fans on one supply. We put the 120mm fan on a power supply of its on and it really speeded up. Projector now runs at about 88 deg F. Thanks for your help. |

Glad to hear you sorted it out matey...i just finished hooking my fans up this afternoon...im using one psu 12v 1amp it runs my 2 x 80mm fans and a 120mm equivilant (its a cylinder type fan see attached pic)
You can pick the psu up for about $AD20 from Dick Smith...so if ya wanted to do away with having 2 psu for ya fans pick a 12v 1amp unit up...or not :-)
Either way enjoy your now cooler projector buddy :-) |
