Need help on DiY 7" lilliput.... Where to start? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Ok I am ready to take the dive into the 7" lilliput project. One problem i see no plans anywhere. All i see is these professional lookings pics. There's no chance I have half that much talent. So where do I start? Any common box shapes?

What online retailer can and should i buy everything from?

I have already done the OHP + Projection panel route(SUCKS)
I have owned 2 DLP projector, and XGA Davis 650 & a SVGA LCD Sony. Got rid of them both when I moved.

I have also tried the PP with MH light source and card board with fresnel lense cheeseball setup.

As well as the fun 100" TV project.

But I want something better, and comparable to the sub 1K projectors. Like the X1, Z1, & 6100.

The lilliput seems like it could be that, small and decent resolution + widescreen. (Hey EDTV Plasma are only 840 * 480 or sometjhing like that so the lilli's 800*480 isnt that bad.)

So where to start?

I have the money to start ordering parts, what parts do I need?

Metal Halide bulb / ballast system---- How many lumens/watt?
Optics?

(that 8" XGA lilliput is tempting off ebay and its only sub 300 not too bad a price can it be adopted for DiY use?

Help me get started im dying to jump back in too DiY Projection again.

Skilzgw,

I am new here but I have learnt a bit by looking around for a looooong time before asking anything.

If you really want plans, you could try
http://www.diyprojectorcompany.com/index.htm

But before you do that you may be better off having a close look at some of the brilliant jobs that have been completed here.

In saying this I mean creators such as Hertzblaster, bfourcade, Ace, Cruiser on DIY builder.com - their individual projects are absolutely inspirational.

Don't put yourself down - just take your time and enjoy the experience even if it crashes on you initially.

As Douglas Adams once wrote: its like alcoholism - go to it and good luck.

Ace has all top notch optics you need buddy, if you ask him nicely he may knock a light box up for a little of the green folding stuff to...his workmanship is impecable fling him an email for parts/pricelist

Hope this helps :-)

Hilbilly,

That's great news. I didn't realise that Ace assisted to that extent.

I know I'd be happy to buy one or two items from him.

Cheers,
HiLLBiLLY
Yeah Ace is the man no doubt....he has taken the time and effort to experiment not to mention spent bucket loads of $$$ and destroying much along the way in his endevour to obtain optimal setups.... I myself have been helped immensly by him and have bought my optics from him and a very reasonable price... Only draw back is the ****** is in Spain .. (get ya *** back to OZ Trev...I'LL keep ya in meat pies for a year bud :-p) <----private joke.

Anyways Goeman flick him an as I mentioned earlier for price/list etc... for your optics

I can suggest Electronic Cars in Hong Kong for your Lilliput i and many others on the forum have bought them from here ...they have the unit delivered in less than a week (mine took 4 days)

Ya lamp and ballast etc you will pick up locally without much drama

Hillbilly:

Dude, I hope you'll let me pick ur brains:
How much did the Lilliput cost? Did Aussie Customs whack anything extra on top?
Where is Electronic Cars (do they have a web address?)

Have you finished making the Lilliput?

etc... Sorry dude I'm so impressed with this site I have more questions than I know what do with!!!!!

Thanks again.
HiLLBiLLY
Hehe not much to pick Goemon lol...I'm also new to the DIY projectors but what i have found I will gladly pass along...

Electronic Car do indeed have a website ... not sure if they sell directly from there never looked to be honest ...they use e-bay i know as i got my Lilliput through there...here's their website anyways http://stores.ebay.com/Extreme-Audi...genameZl2QQtZkm

I paid a little over $300 Australian for it Goemon plus 40 bucks shipping, Aussie customs didn't put an import tax on it at all. Mine was actually on e-bay for $GBP125 but i have seen them there in Aussie dollars and they are a liittle cheaper for some reason (10-20 bucks) Not sure why this is. Fed-Ex deliver it directly too your door, the service is extremely prompt you will have ya Lilliput in under a week after you order and pay for it. Only thing to take care on is ordering the correct Lilli...make sure it is the 1,152.000 pixel version, they also do a lower resolution version and its cheaper (you could use this also but final picture quality wouldn't be as good)

At this stage I have stripped it (this again you could just about do blind folded its dead easy mate) I have partly finished constructing the projector itself (actually made 2 lol but thats a whole other story) ...I purchased all lighting gear locally approx 200 bucks all up and have bought a 240mm Fuji Copy Lens 210 and 310 fresnels a condenser and a reflector from Ace da man and am waiting on delivery of them.

If you do decide to purchase the optics from Ace (which i highly recomend) grab yaself one of his front surface mirrors as well as you cannot get them in Australia so i have since found out lol...

Yup this site definately is the ducks nuts mate no two ways about it, some very clever fellas out there thats for sure...

Anyways, hope this is of some help buddy...
