Major Noob Needs Help with simple vid-projector - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hello, im new here,

Im building a video projector obviously and I need a whole lot of help

1) I have these parts: -

1650 Sharp PP
1000W Halogen light- Might switch to 150w Metal halide
Fresnel
2 Computer fans hooked up to electricity over a voltage transformer
And Kodak Projection lens

I have so many questions so lets start

1) Is there anything else I need
2) Do I have to use a projection lens, and if I dont how do i focus the image
3) Whenever I put the fresnel between the light source and screen the image is lost, but if I put the screeen immedietly I get a large faint unfocused image.
4) How do I put the projection lens in, so that it catches the image and focuses it, cause Im afraid if I do it wont get the full image.

Thanks please answer soon I need to get this done by wednesday.

just a caution: 1000w will run hot.
be careful of your positioning of the lcd too near it.
glass / heatshield will be helpful.

Im using a light used outdoors if u know what im saying, I dont think its the correct light source cause im getting **** results.

Should I be using a large light or something else, because Im thinking of swithcing to metal halide but also an outdoor light. Something like this. Dont laugh

Yeah thanks I realized.

But anywayz Ive gotten it up and running, but its kinda dark, im guessing its from the leaking light, Tommorow Im gonna build the casing. For it,

Im isolating the lighting for the light.

Ive also realized something

If u use a flood light a fresnel isnt needed, or isnt needed badly, because ure image is already magnified

Ive got a pretty largr screen not too large, only 2 meters by 1 meter

So im wondering how to make it larger but maintain clarity and without moving the projector further away, dont I make my screen closer to the light? Cause I dont want to kill the frensel and screen from my 1000w.

Anywayz please someone get back to me, im only 17 I cant do it on my own.

How do I get a bigger screen without moving the projector, do I move the fresnel OR WHAT?

Please someone help

500w to 600w halogen should be enough - With the right setup
- but the a 250w Metal halide would be better

the fresnel collects the light and focuses it - makes it brighter
uses more of the light

use the Projection lens and move the projector back
- you move back and refocus - the fresnel should stay fixed
once you get it setup

I got a usable but a little bit dim image using a 300w halogen
light just like yours - the fresnel and lens helps a lot
just need to find the right spacing for everything

whatch that fresnel, dont melt it

I am going to tell you now - that you will most likely
give up on that halogen light - because of oven like heat
and the cost of electricity :( my little 300w one heated up
my bedroom in 30 minutes form 75F - 85F with the AC on
but its a small bedroom

Here is what I did - I gave up on it and orderd the 250W MH

Thanks will, Im going in tommorow to trade in mine for a 250w metal halide, and do u know if I would require a fan when using metal halide?

A fan yes, but you can use the 12v fans for a computer,
there quiet - and it will depend on were you put the balast -
and what kind it is - if its the big kind with the big lamp
it will be hotter - but no ware near what halogen is
at the same watts - 1 to 2 4in computer fans with good
placement would do and some vents - I have not got my
Metal halide yet , I am just tellin you what I read here in
the forums
Yazan24
It would seem what ure sayign is that the ballast is the part that gets hot and not the actual lamp, but that seems illogical, is that true, because if it is its very convenient.

Got my metal-halide 400w It gets really hot, The image quality has dropped from the 1000w Halogen, but its much cooler, and the light has a nice color to it instead of the yellowish color, so its much more presentable.

Im working on my enclosure now

I should be done by thursday.

I also covered the light box in aluminium foil but now I have a distorted Image, Im thinking of replacing it with something else.
