Computing question: VPNs - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi

I hope it's OK to post this here, but I've received good advice in the past, and I think a lot of members are interested in IT.

I use a VPN to authenticate with my university to send outgoing email. Unfortunatelty, the VPN connection (understandably) interferes with any instant messaging programs I have running, and when I disconnect from the VPN after a brief session the IM disconnects.

I run Windows 2000, and my IM client is Gaim. Can anyone think of a way of preventing the VPN connection from interfering with Gaim? This one has me stumped so far!

Thanks in advance,
Tim.

Hi

For reference, I just found a solution to this problem, similar to the one detailed here:

See ya,
Tim.

Hi,

Your VPN client needs to support what is know as "split tunneling". Even if it does.. then the network guys that control the VPN sw/gear need to allow the client to do ST..
