Rear projection on glass surface - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'd like to know if is it possible to build a rear projector using just a 5'' or 7" LCD display, lamp and lenses ??

I'd like to project the image on a glass surface, is it possible ??

Can I porject the image on daylight ??

If anybody have already done something like that can help me ??

Thanks

Daniel

Window plate glass makes a reasonably good rear projection screen if you gently sandblast the surface the projector shines onto (rear) and view from the smooth untreated side. This makes a relatively low cost screen. It has a very wide viewing angle in all axis and no forward gain. Color response is neutral (good). You can achieve similar results by sandblasting a sheet of plexiglass.

Rcavictim,

You wouldn't happen to have any pics of your new speaker setup would you?

Nice Work! They look amazingly professional!
You finished them very fast, when I saw them in person, they were just the front boards. Once you sell your design, how much you think I can get a pair for?
Amazing design, Mr.S!

BTW, you wouldnt happen to have any RPTV screens that you would like to sell or trade, would you?

Thnx,

Thanx for the complements on my speaker work. These aren't actually finished yet. I am lstening to them on a daily basis however and like them quite a bit. They have done a remarkable job meeting my demanding design goals. I am still experimenting with the voicing and looking for a really good tweeter for this design.

I do have a 41" rear screen but you have to take the whole RPTV set.

Yes, I remember about that broken TV set. 41" is abit small for me, and having to take the whole set makes it even worse:D . Good luck with your speakers, I would love to hear them in action someday.

Just curious, how much wattage can those speakers handle, while sounding fine without distortion? And what impedence are they at? Sorry for asking this in the Video forum...

Damn, those speakers are sweet...

being such a chronic project starter I've beeb trying to stay away from the audio forums. Now I'm screwed. Thanks alot... how the hell am I gonna pay for all those speakers?!?!?!
rcavictim
Ancorp,

They will handle a 100 watt per channel amp but are actually designed to do the best with a one watt to twenty watt per channel range tube amp. These are designed for high quality, not super high SPL's. I was gratified that they go almost as loud as I can stand on a 3 watt SE 6BQ5 amplifier with plenty of powerful bass. That was one of the tough design goals achieved. They are 4 ohms. These are not low cost or entry level audiophile speakers. If you want a pair better start buying lottery tickets. ;)

Nice:D

Dpinho, I have build a rear projection tv using a 5inch LCD screen and 65 watt compact flourescent bulb that produces 2700 lumens. The size of the tv is 4'X3'X3' it can be seen clearly in the day and it is bright. The screen is only 41" but it good enough. My screen is made out of a sheet of plex-glass, a opaque shower curtain and a huge fresnel lense that is 41''. If you need help building one I can lend a hand.
I have a thread on here but I didnt post on it in a while and I'm sure if it is still here, but is a picture. The image is not level thats why it look small on the screen.
dpinho
It is exactly what I need...

Could you send me more details of your project ??

How did you dispose the LCD, fresnel lens, lamp and other stuffs ??

How much did it cost ??

I'd appreciate your help

Thanks

Daniel
tetutigre
where did you get the fresnel?
rmccoll
The whole thing cost me about $200.00
Sony Psone LCD $35.00 off Ebay
Light Source $20.00 off www.1000bulbs.com
Fijinon Lense off www.surplusshed.com
Fresnel Lense $60.00 off www.goldmine-elec.com
Mirror $10.00 Lowes
Fan $5.00
Wood, Plexi-glass and some trail and error made up the rest

Here is the Lcd strip.

rmccoll,

Thanks for your help..

I have already started to look for the LCD monitor.

I am trying to buy a PS one Monitor...

I've found one Sony PS one and a Foster PS One monitor ??

The foster is almost half of the price..

Anyone know if can I use the Foster on my project ?? They guy who is selling it didn't know the resolution of it..

Thanks again
dpinho
I am sorry...

I made a mistake with the PS ONE manufacturer..

It is not Foster.. The right name is Foston..

Anybody knows if the Foston PS One is good enough to make a rear projection ??
rmccoll
It seems someone found the thread, I thought it was gone. I hope the info on the thread can help you guys out, if you have any questions feel free to ask me.
The Official Sony PSone LCD is the one to use, I don't know about any of the others. You can find them on Ebay for $60.00. If you want to a lot of them look for this guy Ebay (to the highest bidder) that is his username. He usually has a lot of LCDs for sale. I bought 5 Sony PSone LCD from him for $35.00 and 19 Intec Gamecube LCD for $120.00.
tetutigre
hi,

do you have any of those screens you would be willing to pass on to me? :D
rmccoll
Sorry I have sold all of them.
tetutigre
