Hey everyone just found this forum and im loving it (lol 9 straight hrs of reading so far) im intrested in building a LCD projector using a Lilliput 7" XGA and Fujinon Copy lens so far the 2 projects that i have read about are bfourcade's and ace3000_1's both witch i LOVE mad props.....

What are the major differences between the two? both seem to use same equipment besides light source and just differnt shells (may be wrong i know nothing) But they both gave me alot of ideas....

How do you figure out all the distances for placement of all componets (im sure there is some formula out there just havent found it but then again not really sure what im looking for yet either)

Also could someone like bfourcade or ace3000_1 give me a list of everything that i need not including building supplys

Well alittle about myself im a more then full time college student with 1 Deg under my belt (Machinest) and im going for Engineering with 2 years left. I also know a thing or two about computers and electronics but i must that before coming to this forum i knew nothing about how LCD projectors work or how there built all i knew is i wanted one but could not afford one:(

And being a college student im kinda poor :( lots and lots of bills....... What im looking for is any and all help on desine and setup of projectors i plan on desining everything on AutoCad first.

Also being poor and all i was thinking that any of you Crazy DIYers need anything made in terms of fixtures or ANYTHING really ( I have full access to everthing from every manual machine to 5 axes CNC machines that can make ANYTHING and with your desine and my skills you could have yourself that piece you allways wanted but never could make:) So what im getting at here is kind of like a swap thing you have something you want made and you have somepiece that you dont use and that i need..... you get the point....

Hey there. Welcome to the forum. Great to hear you have been reading... Keep at it :D. You say you can machine just about anything? I'd love to chat with you one day about that as there is a slew of designs that both me and ace3000_1 might be interested in having machined. It is always great to know people who can offer other services in this game as you will get nickle and dimed with these projects if your not careful :). Both me and ace can strip about anything and we've both got some good sources. If you need projection panels cheap, I'm the guy to talk to :D.

As for finding the distances between optics, as ace would probably tell you, it's simply a matter of trial and error (and reading a good optics book). I will tell you that the best way to get into these projects is to set a goal for yourself and get going. Test everything yourself. Buying projection panels and stripping them down is a good way to get a nice LCD module and controller to test your designs with. nView panels are the best to strip and they are cheap (sometimes). My biggest advice to you is not to build what I will be the first to refer to as a BUP (Big Ugly Projector). As proven by by many people, the days of building a huge 4 foot crate are over. I'm still amazed that I see people using soup laddles and other "roundish" objects as condensers in these projectors full of "open air" and wasted space. I'll stop ranting now but just aspire for small, lol.

good luck

lol dont plan on making a (Big Ugly Projector) i would like to make it nice looking and compact as possible. thats why i want to do every thing out in CAD first. Im allso thinking about machining the bace plate i hear alot of people saying how hard it is to get everything just right like the mirror at a 45 and such well if the bace place had all the slots or what no machined and the right angles i would think it would make life a lot simpler. I also have access to a sheet metal shop so i think that will help

Sure you can e-mail me anytime with any ideas you have that you would like to come to life my e-mail is Crazykappa@aol.com also if you you AIM its Crazykappa im sure we can work something out.

Looking forword from hearing from ya
