Hi all,
I' ve found a good source for TDA1541A (Date code: HBH9636).
If we put together at least 100 pcs., we can have them for approx. 6 EUR/pcs. (+shipping).
We should put the order together in a week maximum, otherwise these chips will be sold out.
Anybody interested?
Cheers,
Bruno |

Hi all,
well, looks like the interest is quite big :D 29 pcs. so far (plus the ones I' m going to buy for myself, 6 to 8 pcs.)!
I hope we' ll reach the 100 pcs. treshold soon, it would be a pity to miss this opportunity...
Ok, here a couple of info about shipping / payment:
Shipping: to keep the costs low, I was thinking about using the "prioryty" service of the Swiss post, it works well and it won' t break the bank. The chips can be sent as letters (sending them as packets would be much more expensive), and the Price is as follows:
to Europe: up to 100 g CHF 3.60 (approx. 2.35 EUR), up to 250 g CHF 6.20 (approx. 4.00 EUR)
to US: up to 100 g CHF 5.00 (approx. 3.25 EUR), up to 250 g CHF 8.50 (approx. 5.50 EUR).
If the "letter" will become big (thicker than 20mm), there' s a flat rate for a weight up to 500 g: to Europe CHF 13.00 (8.45 EUR), to US CHF 19.00 (12.35 EUR).
As for payments, I can get money transfer (but banking fees are usually quite high) or paypal. In both cases, fees would be at your charge.
Cheers,
Bruno |

Hi all,
well... looks like the interest in this group buy is not as big as I figured out :(
The problem is, if we do not reach a min. quantity of 100 pcs. by tomorrow, 28th September, the deal I have with this source is gone!
I wouldn' t like to miss out this opportunity, OTOH I can' t buy 100 pcs. and then have 70 of them lying around 'cause they are not sold, I do not need them. If we do not reach this minimum quantity, the group buy will have to be canceled, unfortunately :(
Cheers,

Just search through this or other audio forums, and you' ll see that they' re not "nonsense rumours". Of course, there' s also original ones on the market, but I suspect it' s the minority...
After all, a die stamp is quite cheap and the hype about the "crowned" chip is big enough to stimulate the appetite of dishonest sellers...

Hi all,
wheeeew!!! Well, first of all I' m sorry for not coming back to you all before, but I suddenly had to go abroad on a business trip, and I couldn' t access properly the net...:(
So, the situation is as follows:
I have the order confirmation, the price comes out at 6,15 EUR/pc.; the other piece of news (good or bad, I do not really know...) is that, due to the fact that I placed the order a bit late, not all of the TDAs have the same date code as stated (96), as my source already sold many of them; a big part of these TDAs (around 70%) have a '97' date code. I do not think it makes any difference, but I wanted to be completely fair. So, if anyone of you thinks he does not want these parts any more because of the different date code, he is free to withdraw from this group buy, but I need to know it until Monday, 4th October, 8.00 am. This is my deadline for confirming definitely the order (I put the order 'on hold' because of this issue...). Past this deadline, the ones who havent' t explicitely withdrawn (here on the thread or per e-mail), will receive an e-mail with payment instructions from me. If I will receive many withdrawals, I will be obliged to cancel the group buy (please do not consider this as blackmailing, it' s just that I do not want to have 80 TDAs lying around...).
Cheers,
Bruno |

Hi Guy's,
AFAIC not a thing!!!
I've listend to both chips new and older than 96 and the sound was 100% identical.
So I wouldn't hesitate in buying them afterall, and for a few Cents more, you'll still have chips for a great price :D
Just my 2 cents ;)

P.S. Maybe the older types are diferent, Jean-Paul knows everything about the TDA1541A and S1 &S2! |

Hello All
I dont think we have to worry about the quality of chips.
I listened years to a CD640 with a standard 1541(no A or As1) code 8701
When sudden the 1541 broke(a litlle too enhousistic modify-handling) I changed the 1541 in one with productioncode 8645, taken from an older 660
What was that, metal like midband and harsh sound? I couldnt believe it but it had to be from other (older) production, there wasn't changed anything else. So the production from the first 1541's I think was not the best (In my experience)
I red also(do'nt know where), someone else had sort of experience with 1541.
These group buy 1541A's are a newer ones, so I believe in all those years they must have the production "in hands"
And TDA 1541A for this price is not bad at all!

Hi all,
the chips will arrive at my place on Friday, and during the weekend I will ship them to all of you who have sent me the money.
I would like to finalise the whole thing during the weekend, also because next week I' ll be away on a business trip.
Many of you didn' t reply to my messages yet, and someone replied just to cancel his order...:( well, a bit disappointing, especially because I actually already paid for all those chips, but that' s life...
Ok, I will send another message to the ones who did not reply yet, please do not take an offence on that, I do not mean to be pushy, but I really would love to finalise the whole thing as soon as possible!
Cheers,

The chips are here!!!
Unfortunately, I was not at home when the mailman came, so I' ll have to pick up them at the post office on Monday!:bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:
Luckily, I' m leaving for my business trip on Tuesday, so I will be able to finalise the shipment to you all before I leave...
Some of you didn' t reply yet to my e-mails, so I kindly ask them to do it as soon as possible!
Another thing: I believe many of you are interested, as well as I am, in trying different converters; my source told me he has 100 pcs. TDA1543 for 1.10 EUR each (but we have to buy them all to get this price), as well as a certain amount (approx. 20 pcs.) of NOS TDA1541A (date code 86 and 87), for a slightly higher price (8 EUR/pc. if we buy them all). Anybody interested??

Hi all,
just a short note before I leave...
Yesterday I was at the post, and I had a bit of mess, because my source sent me the parts as "parts without value" but then insured the shipment for 600 EUR!!:(
Of course, the customs were not that happy, so I had to fill out a declaration at the post office, stating that these things are for my personal use, blah, blah... To cut a long story short, the package should be released today:redhot:
Well, in a couple of hours I' m going to leave for my trip, but my wife will pick up the box and send the TDAs to all of you, so the delay won' t be that big...
I apologise for this inconvenient to you all.
Cheers,
Bruno |

Oops, forgot this:
Some of the participants to the group buy disappeared and never replied to my mails. Now, although I do not like it very much, I also understand that somebody can change his/her mind. In short, I will wait for an answer from these member until the end of this week (17th October), then I will assume they are not interested in these parts any more and I will feel free to resell them to other members who may be interested.
Thanks,

Hi all,
:D :D :D all your chips are on the way!!!:D :D :D
I apologise once again for all these delays, looks like Mr. Murphy has been working hard on this group buy...
A side note: the actual postage was in many cases lower than what I' ve charged you for... miscalculation on my side:cannotbe:
The difference is not that big (we' re talking about 1.50 EUR per person, on the average), nevertheless I do not want to keep this money, so I guess there are two ways out:
1. The ones who want their money back can just drop me a line, and I will immediately devolve the money back through paypal (or whichever other mean you would like).
2. We can arrange a group donation to the forum.
Please let me know...
Another thing: I would like to remind to the ones who never replied to my mails, that I will keep their chips aside until tomorrow, than I will assume they' re not interested any more.

Yes, I know...
I remember certain winters in Bucharest... ;)
When I was in Siberia (Krasnoyarsk), the humidity was also very high, because the water of the Jenisey river is used to cool a local, big energy plant and its temperature never falls below 0°C, so you can imagine what happens when the air temperature is 40°C below zero... humidity, fog and a thick ice crust!
My problem is, I work in the field of traffic safety in winter, so I have a very personal, deep knowledge of darn cold, humid places...:dead: |

Hi all,
here a short update:
After having some trouble with my paypal account, I finally was able to make the donation to Diyaudio, in the name of all the participants to this group buy.
I still have a few of extra chips laying around so, if anybody is interested... drop me a line!:D
I also decided to buy those NOS 1541A (date code 87/88), because I wanted to have some for myself and to compare them with the newer ones. After some long, arabian market - style negotiations I was able to get them for 7.50 EUR/pc. instead of 8, but I had to buy them all, so I will have around 10 -12 of them extra. Anybody interested?
Cheers,
Bruno |

| Do your comparison, come back here, and honestly tell us if you can tell between them.
Count me in for one anyway ;) |

I' ll do the comparison as soon as I will have them, I will place them (both the new and the older ones) into my old, faithful CD304MKII and will listen to it...
Frankly speaking, at the moment I' m not expecting much of a difference, but who knows? |

Hi all!
Well, lately I did not have much time for the follow-ups of this and the other group buys, as my wife had to undergo a small surgical intervention, so I was busy with other matters...
Nevertheless, there' s some news: a few days ago i got the NOS 1541A (date code 87/88) so, if anybody is interested...:D :D :D
I didn' t have much time yet to thoroughly compare the two versions (older and newer ones); I did just a quick comparison and, so far, the 87/88 ones seem to me at least as good as the newer ones. More to follow...
Cheers,
Bruno
P.S.: I also ordered a batch of PCM56P (J and K versions), as it is my intention to experiment with several different DACs. I will have some extra for sure, and I think I will put them in the trading forum... |

Did all of you build DACs with the chips now? Any new designs? Anyone had positive experience with the HtP signal conditioning? for me it only added noise...

My 1541s are playing now, dual DACs balanced, with data line inverter formed with BS250 + BS170, D1 output stage. |
