Hi Guys,
I am selling my LCD panel and overhead projector on eBay in a few days but thought I would offer it up on here first, as someone here may want it or live nearby and want to pick it up.
I would like US$ 175 for the my setup, plus shipping.
It would be handy if someone local wants it, then I can deliver or arrange pick-up and not have to pack it all up and ship it.
I live near Barrie, but work on the outskirts or Toronto mon-fri. so anywhere near the GTA maybe further?
The panel is an ASK 16.7
The LCD inside is a Sharp (you can see a Sharp logo sticker on the inside trough the glass).
I assume its similar specs as the other Sharp Q series of VGA panels, 30 ms response time, 16.7 million colors (hence the name of the panel) 100:1 contrast etc...
It is a VGA 640 X 480 native res, and only capable of that resolution. VGA 640 X 480 60 hz refresh rate from your PC.
No other inputs, just VGA. It did not come with a power supply buy i bought one at an electronics store ($40) that is the same specs as the original one. The power supply is included with this setup.
Also no cord came with it, however I have a home made 22 foot long cable that comes with it. One end fits your computer video VGA out and the other end goes into the LCD panel.
I could find much info about this panel but took a chance on it when I saw it on eBay a year ago, this is the only mention I could find about this exact model:
http://www.onlinemag.net/OL1995/MayOL95/connolly.html
I bought it for $100 untested, without a powersupply or cable, just the panel, I know a bit much and a bit of a gamble, but I was impatient and got caught up in the bidding (newbie on eBay - hehe), also I thought it would have been at least SVGA because of the 16.7 million colors, but it was not, never the less I was very happy with it once I got it going.
There are 2 dead pixles, but when watching letterbox movies, they are not in the picture. one is rite near the edge the other is in the top right corner, even when watching fullscreen 4:3 TV I never noticed them.
No scratches on the glass.
The overhead is an ELMO HP-4K DX.
Triplet Vari-focus lens
4000 Lumens
Takes 410 W FXL halogen bulbs, You can have 2 installed and switch over within seconds if one fails.
I have gone through 4 of these and buy them from eBay for $7 each, and they last 50-70 hours each.
Two bulbs are in the projector one FXL and a lesser 360 W E something type bulb (the 360W was in it when I got it of eBay for $72 + shipping but replaced it right away with FXL ones, but now I am not buying anymore so put it back in as it's my last spare, so I don't know how long it has been run, I have only ran it a few mins on that bulb when I first got the projector) The FXL bulb in the overhead has only been used maybe 15-20 hours so should do you for the first few days untill you can line up a few more.
The only thing I should mention about the overhead is that one of the plastic bits on the side that you wrap the cord around has snapped off, so the cord slips off easily when its wound up for transport, very minor but I wanted to mention it.
This overhead folds down into a suitecase type size for easy transport.
The lens, glass, and mirror are in great shape with no scratches.
I used this projector quite a bit over the last 6 months (enough to go through 4 bulbs) and never had any problems.
I am going to attach several photos following this post. |

Screen shots
The close up of the google screen seems to have artifacts from the camera
Like most photos, they look alot better in person and are brighter .
These are untouched (except resize and compressed for web) pics taken by hand on full auto mode with no flash on a Canon Powershot A75 digicam. |

Top left: note busted cord wrap thing
Top right: with 2 lamps on, still clear and viewable, total dark is best but most times I had one lamp on.
Bottom left: 22 foot VGA to Panel cable
Bottom right: OHP on/off and Hi/Lo swithes, i always use lo, to lenghten bulb life (not much difference IMHO) |

Funny your selling your projector. I have only today finally got the bits I need to make my 2nd attempt. Just gone via the fresnel lens, built it and well, umm yes very nice, not. So I have purchased
1x Optima 822c and a Nobo Sasco 400 4725 lumens.
I hope I have made the right choice and it will work. BUt anyway the reason I write is that I have now that long week wait before I get the bits delievered. Do you remember that feeling? Sure you really want to sell your kit. Wish you had posted this last week as I would have taken it off you.
Take care

Hi GPZ900R,
Yeah I hear ya, the waiting almost killed me, my overhead took almost 7 weeks to arrive, I had the panel all ready and no light engine....But it makes it all the sweeter when it does arrive and works fantastic.
So did you try the fresnel infront of your TV plan...Thats what got me started on this whole thing, stumbling across some plans for a $10 150' TV, then researching trying to find out if it works, came across DIYAudio, checked out the 'Post Your Results' thread, and the rest is history.
I am very happy with mine, however, a friend of mine just upgraded his home theatre and will sell me his older projector for cheap, so I am gonna buy it, but we have a small house (700 Sq feet) and I would prefer something a little more compact and easy to set up and put away (not enough room to have a permanent instalation) and also my wife says " Don't we have enough screens around the house, 3 TV's and 2 computers" so I agreed to sell one projector befor I buy another.
Like I said, i am switching to a proper LCD projector for space and convenience reasons, plus I am getting a good deal on it. I can "only have one projector...."
Good luck with your project, and I like your site, I was born and raised in Ipswich, now live in Canada.
