sir
i completed my bride of zen last week.i have one problem.i was not able to get 5k output pot.i got one alps blue 100k linear pot.can i convert this linear pot to log pot according to Mr.Leach.
since i am from a rural area in india,it is very difficult to get some kind of quality specific parts.
so please help me

I'm not entirely familiar with the conversion technique, so I can't be sure what sort of resistance you will get at any given setting.

You might be better off using it at the input of the preamp, instead of at the output.

yes, that is what i did, but not because i cannot find a 5k pot. I used 100k pot at the input because i am getting way too much gain at the output.

You can "taper" a linear pot into a pseudo audio taper by adding a resistor from the wiper output to ground. Here's a good reference: (Look toward the bottom.)

The reference is good, but it is quite a hard job to convert 100k lin pot into 5k log pot. The values differ too much.
Davey
Yes, you are correct, but it's not critical that the volume control be exactly 5k, and it will still be better than a 100k linear taper pot by itself.
Also, he didn't mention the amplifier input impedance. That will also factor into the equation.

Cheers,

Davey.

I would try a 10K to ground off the wiper. This way the output
impedance will never exceed about 6 K ohms, even if it does
make it a little touchy at the top.

i used 16 k to ground off the wiper.i used it in the input.i used a 5k fixed resistor on the output,ie,after the 10 uf.now it is working fine with my power follower 99.
is there any problem keeping it like this.please advise
