Finished my mini-A today.
All parts I used were off the shelf and were there as spares for my long time completed and very stable Aleph 5.
PCB's were made by Mike W, thank you !!!!!
Completely dual mono construction each consisting of:
300VA 2x12V amplimo toroid
2x 68000uF stubby each topped off with 3,3uF audyn-MKP's
the rest is the usual, irf9610's irf240 etc etc, no exotic parts used anywhere and some 2nd hand heatsinks
Offset left is 20mV, right 80mV (nothing to be scared of) and there is some hum but only audible when turning the preamp volume all the way up and putting your ear almost in the woofer.
Sound is wonderful compared to the effort and costs, hell even whitout the cost and effort is great, no GC for me :D
Now all I have to do is build a nice chassis which is gonna be easy since each side of the amp is completely build on a heatsink.
I'll probably add a simple preamp in the chassis (ideas about a very small and simple one??).
I build this one for my brother who will finish university as an architect after 9 years :dead: next month.
Pictures will be posted as soon as I get my hands on a digital camera (still analog at home..)

Excellent work on your Mini-A. I just happened to discover about the Mini-A, but still trying to find PCB, PCB artwork/files, schematics and all. Can you point me in right direction, as I have been searching internet and diyaudio.com and no luck so far.
One question if I may, do you know how much current your Mini-A is drawing at the mains? If so can you advise and also what the Mains AC voltage you are using?

If you use the search function here (frustrating as it may be to use), you'll find the original Mini-A article. It was something I threw together because I had a few spare parts of one sort or another, and thought it would be fun. It's big enough to use for a tweeter amp in a smallish biamp system, or perhaps as a full range amp with efficient horn speakers. It can be scaled somewhat, but if you start moving up towards 22-25V rails, go ahead and build an Aleph 3 or Volksamp 30.
MikeW was kind enough to run up PC boards for the silly thing.

I have everything wor a nice MiniA - except there were some major mistakes :bawling: in my home made PCBs - and after that I've lost a little of my interest in finishing it :(
But with your excelent layout - one nice MiniA would became alive :D |
