Is blueprint 1804 suitable for music? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Is the blueprint 1804 suitable for music? Mainly looking at dayton titanic or a pair of TC2+ right now. Need a net 4ohm load that can handle 1000watts, and fully cover the bottom octaves.

Yes I know about thedayton versus tc2+ on mfk projects, but that's comparing a single one, and output is important to me.

I think a ported dayton 15 would be able to have more spl down low than the pair of tc2+ sealed (tc2+ can't really be ported can they?)

It'd be nice if I can reach 115 at 25hz after room gain, and peak at like 120+ in the 40hz region. I want to be able to get rock-concert like sound in the room, for when I want to listen to rock music. With that huge resonance impact from kickdrums that you can feel in the chest. So don't yell at me for wanting high spl, obviously I'm not going to be listening to it at these levels all of the time.

So which setup would be more suitable musically 20-80hz maximizing sq and spl?

Single blueprint 1804 ported (15s aren't available, don't bring it up)

Well, compared to the other choices, the Blueprint is in a different universe when it comes to displacement, so I'd venture a guess it'll have to work a lot less hard than the other two for a given SPL. This almost always equates to lower distortion. IIRC, the BP has an inductance hump, but if you cross it over well below 100Hz it should be fine, IMO.

I'd be crossing around 80hz tops, most likely closer to 60.

Is there a better choice in terms of output-oriented sq? See my other post I guess. I mean maelstrom is nice and all, but the blueprint seems to do the same thing, with lots more excursion and double the power handling, same efficiency.

I guess i'm just more worried about the musicality of the blueprint, or if it's just going to have to much output 20-30 and not a good enough response in the 40-60 music range.

Sure, there's always better stuff...at a price. I have a couple Aurasound 1808 drivers I'm itching to build up. But they go for somewhere around $1k each.

don't worry too much about raw driver response. In the lower bands, it's all quite adjustable. You can tune to emphasize or de-emphasize whatever range you want.

Actually, you can vent the TC2+ in QB3, although you need a biggish box: the maximally flat alignment wants 140 litres tuned to 20 Hz for a single woofer. Mind you, the response is -3dB at 18 Hz. The sims I ran indicated you could align an 80 litre box to 24 Hz, which would give you a titch more sensitivity (+1dB) from 30 to 60 Hz, with a -3 dB point around 22 Hz. Maximum excursion is about 10 mm at 30 Hz for 200 watts in. The whole thing gives a max SPL of 108 dB/1 metre, so for 4 it's 114 dB/1 metre ignoring coupling effects; say 120 with that thrown in.

I hope your mids and highs can keep up; that's a LOT of sound. On the other hand, it looks as if the TC2+ could be reasonably linear up to 200-300Hz (disclaimer: I haven't tested them extensively), so crossing over there could help the midwoofers carry the load. The tweeters are on their own. :smash:

Francois.

The short answer is yes! All around its a superior driver to most and less $ than any other EQUAL solution:) Four of them in an IB manifold is actually dangerous to ur house construction, Houses HAVE been damaged with them so go easy! they will produce 115 db @15 hz:) and will go down to 5 hz. go here:)

Other options:

Pair of IDMAX (friend is selling these, could get the pair for like $400shipped)

Adire Tumult (worth the extra money over the blueprint?)

i would say, for all intents and purpose you would be hard pressed to ever determine which is better on direct A/B there would be a small sound difference but deciding which was better, near impossible. taste prob plays a bigger part. have heard both but not in direct A/B
