Hello,
What is the idle dissipation of aleph2,3,5 ?
Anybody know how much that would translate to monthly electric bill if I live in California, USA, assuming I keep tham on all the times?
Silily, I have never checked my energy bill and do not know how much they charge per watt. But I always thought they are about same across the state.

I'm not 100% sure but I have these figures in my memory:
A3 --> 200W/stereo
A5 --> 300W/stereo
A2 --> 300W/mono
About el.bill - e.g. A5: 300W*24h*30days=216kWh - so if you know the price for 1kWh it shouldn't be hard to calculate it ... |

Don't forget to at least double the cost calculated above to account for the extra air conditioning. In my small living room 400 watts from my A-75 bumps the temperature up about 5-7 degrees. :hot:
Stock Alephs dissipate 3x outpt power. If you bump the bias up in search of better sound, up goes your waste heat. |

Dear All,
I am seriously thinking about tackling an Aleph 3 or 30.
1. Can I use the power consumption figures from the Service Manuals (i.e. 200W/amplifier for the Aleph 3 or 30 - or say 300W/ channel if I wanted to go Aleph 2) as the total power I have to dissipate in my heat sinks?
2. Can I use these figures to work out the power of the transformers I choose, say by multiplying the this consumption by a "magic factor"? If so what "magic factor" - 2 or 2.5 perhaps - or is it just a "magic factor" of 1?
3. If you have time, could you check out my question about boards in a new thread just posted, please.

1) Yes
2) It kinda depends on the manufacturer, but use a factor of at least 2 to be on the safe side (I used 1kVA for my Aleph 2s, whereas a 600-750VA transformer would have been entirely adequate). If you want to cut it a little closer, you can actually use a fan to cool the transformer...but do you really want to? Besides, bigger transformers, all things being equal, will tend to have less impedance on their secondaries, which can lead to better dynamics.

| to respond to the electrical bill thing, i checked mine the other day, and it was $0.07/kwh. someone said that was a bit low, theirs was like $0.15. so running two aleph2 monoblocks all day every day will costs more than $60/month! |

Now I just have to CHOOSE a project or two ... hence my new thread about "Aleph30/60 schematics and PCB's etc." and the question in the thread about "Aleph 30 Sound".
