Source for aluminum for chassis? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm looking for a source or sources of aluminum for building some Aleph X chassis. I'm looking for some 1/2" - 3/4" bar stock, some ventilated sheet for top/bottom.

Probably going to do the frontpanelexpress.com thing for a clean front and back plate. My heatsink will be the sides.

Does anyone have a source (US / Midwest preferred for minimal shipping) for this sort of material?

Thank you,

Bryan

I have used www.onlinemetals.com , they have a good selection

I usually start with McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com). You'll find it in the Raw Materials and Springs section -- the last section on their home page. Just click on the word "metals" in the list.

They’re a bit spendy but usually have what I need in stock.

i like ebay. there are a few people on there that even sell it by the pound, or by the square foot for a cheap price, and will but to size too. just look under the category: business and industrial > metalworking > materials

(i think thats it...)

I could cast something like that +/- 1/8"...

Have you checked for a metal dealer in your area? They usually will have a remnant area and will sell various pieces by the pound. I have done this at one of my local delaers and can really get aluminum cheap. I've also had good experiences with onlinemetals.com.

Good luck!

You might look for Metal Supermarkets, as they have locations everywhere.

I use IMS, Industrial Metal Supply. They have it all in almost any metal and prices are good too.

Check the local surplus... they often have the same stuff for much less. You can often find other stuff like enclosures with interior scratches, etc.
