I want to draw everyone's attention to the new links on most pages with the "help needed!" message. diyAudio.com is a very non-profit organization and we're counting on our members to help us out. We're implementing some ways to keep the commercialism separate and unubtrusive, but to do that effectively, we need to be able to pay the basic bills for bandwidth. Do read over our message, see the nifty benefits you can get, then dig deep and throw a few shekels in the hat.

Thanks to all!

According to the text I should contact 'us' for alternate arrangements.
Who would that 'us' be, I need my Supreme Shepherd of Electrons title very bad ;)

What other options would there be for paying?
My preference would be visa.
SY
webmaster@diyaudio.com

I sorta like "Poohbah of Polarity" myself.
SY
"Sultan of Sonics."
moamps
Any info of another paying option (credit cards)?
In my country paypal doesn't work.

Milan

Drop an email to the webmaster and he'll set up things for you. And our deepest thanks!

Tim , trust me, you REALLY don't want to see me do that.

My sincerest thanks and gratitude to those who have kicked in already. For the rest of you, c'mon! Buy one less set of fancy RCA jacks and use that money as an investment in this resouce. Be a Vicar of Valves. Be an Active Radiator. Be The Wodin of Woofers. Keep me busy changing titles so that I'm too busy to go out on the streets and frighten young children.
peranders
Maybe we should start a new thread about cool titles? I can't think about any catchy in english. I have couple in swedish but I'll guess it's no so good?
SY
Languages other than English are just fine. I'll go work on some Aramaic alliterations.
SY
Hmmmm, tougher than I thought. My Aramaic consists of knowing how to say things like "the cat came and ate the little goat my father bought", but I don't seem to have picked up electronic terms.

People are doing a great job of stepping up and contributing. Thanks to all of you and to all of our members who make this site what it is.

Hi SY,

I wanted already to donate some fee for a long time. But the Paypal link does not work for me. Ok, I need to upgrade my browser for that, but I don’t want to go through that hassle for now just to donate a fee to DiyAudio and since I have no other problems.... With other payments I have had no problems at all.

Have put this up already some months ago, but it seems my problem to fix that  :(

Cheers ;)

I plan to paypal $20 in a week or 2 (after my paycheque has arrived, bit short on cash right now).

Btw I am a bit afraid to do internet payments these days. My PC has been pestered by trojan horses, spy ware, browser hijacks and so on. Although I daily update my virusscanner, always check M$ for patches and have 3 spyware detectors. Been using Mozilla Firefox now for some time, things are getting better.

Maybe its is an idea to make the costs of running DIYaudio a bit more visable to the members. And also the total amount of donations. So you get an idea how things are. It would be really terrible to lose all the info on the forum.

I guess for a title "The one and only" is out of the question?? ;)
SY
Pjotr or anyone else with paypalophobia, send an email to webmaster@diyaudio.com and we can make alternate arrangements.

I like the idea of a thermometer, too. And I think for future Begathons, we'll probably have it. We just needed to get this one going.
Duck-Twacy
As I said I will donate at the end of the month. If Pjotr agrees I can pay his donation at the same time and he can pay me via a normal bank transfer (we know each other from the Dutch Hear forum).

On the other hand that will complicate things a bit for you if he wants his special titel too.

If you're both willing to help us out and it's convenient to send a single paypal payment then by all means please do so. Just drop me a line webmaster@diyaudio.com after you've sent the payment and tell me both user names and how much was donated by each person.

Thanks.
SY
Hey, a BIG thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. But we're still well short of what we need for server fees alone. Been putting off donating a few dollars? You mean to, but you just haven't gotten around to it yet. Now's the time to do it. Then we'll shut up about it for another year. And you'll have a cool new title.

;) ;) ;)

My donation has been done. Is there any place in cyberspace to see the figures rise and rise....?

BTW, can't think of any cool name... Suggestions?

I wouldn't choose Suggestions as a name, but everybody can do what they want ;)
Zeno does sound a bit like Xena, so maybe "Conus the Barbarian" ? :clown:

It's in the pipeline as are the custom titles. Watch this space.

I'm just getting ready to figure out how to donate via Paypal.

What occurred to me:
- diyaudio is visually very elaborate, the madisound forum is much simpler but also less convenient (you can only view one post at a time) => why not keep the thread structure but change everything to text-based?

- There are some threads which are true gems that I keep going back to (and generating traffic in doing this). Printing out is tedious because you need to print out all the images and attachments separately. Caching a whole thread also does not seem to work.
=> why not offer the whole forum on DVD (or one forum per DVD if too big) for sale, this would generate revenue and cut down on bandwidth

We may eventually get to this, but it will be a truly enormous coding task.

Interesting, but I think there will be very little demand for it. You's be stuck with version this...year that...

(But I could be wrong)

Cheers,

Well, I would gladly pay say $20 for an update every half year or so. It's about the same amout I pay for each of the two diy loudspeaker subscriptions I have, and at least the same information value...

We've almost raised enough to keep us going for the time being. We're only going to be pushing the begathon for 1 or 2 weeks longer. Thank you to all that have contributed. Next thing will be to finish the logo competition and get some merchandise going so that we have a more steady income for the future.
AudioFreak
We are now only about $70 short of our target. I will officially wrap up the 2004 begathon at the end of the week.
SY
To All:

We're ending the 2004 Begathon today, though anyone is free (and encouraged!) to donate any time they wish. Thanks to the generosity of our members and to industry participants, we have hit our goal and can keep the doors open and lights on. And, of course, my personal thanks to the hard-working volunteer moderators and advisors, who are unbelievably generous with their time and energy.

AudioFreak and I will be contacting donors shortly to arrange getting custom titles implemented as our thanks to you.

Again, you folks have really come through when we needed it, and we really, really appreciate it. We'll do everything we can over the coming year to maintain the high quality of this forum and (hopefully) start breaking some new ground.

Yes, AudioFreak has put together a donor list. We're setting it up so that users can specify their new titles and the admins can start the drudge work of changing all the titles. I hope that we'll be able to get started this week.
peterr
Are the moderators the only ones to have earned custom titles? :D
Or am I being inpatient?

No Sir...I'll contact the administrators...to lodge a complaint ;-)
peranders
peterr, since we not yet have a routine for this, just send SY, Planet10 or AudioFreak a message about your title which you can choose yourself.
Ropie
I don't know where else to post this as the logo competition thread is now closed: results were going to be announced a month ago..............any news?
AudioFreak
Jason the other judge and site owner has been AWOL ... I'll be talking to him next week so we should have something worked out in a couple of weeks. Sorry for the delay.
Ropie
Thanks for the update

What's goin on with logo competition? The competition was closed a year(!) ago...
AudioFreak
Although no official announcement was ever made I think we have basically come to the conclusion that there was no outright winner and that we will keep our current logo for the time being. We may however occassionally use some of the entries from time to and for brief periods. I will compile a list of honorable mentions and post it this week.
karma
could you not make the logo change everytime you vivsit the page
like this one i visit from time to time all logos are made by members.

http://www.pouet.net/

just a idea;)
AudioFreak
To help maintain branding etc, we will stick with a single logo and just occassionally run a different logo from time to time (like google does on certain days of the year). I'm not saying that we will keep the current logo as our main logo forever but for the time being, that is the decision.
Moondog55
OK as a new member and user I thought it was only right to make a contribution.
I do have to say that I, also would have liked to know how much it cost to run the site, not to be nosy but to know if the US$20; I sent in was enough.
Also is it better to send in a little less more often, after all I think the advice I have received so far has been worth more than one cheap driver.
 :D
Netlist
The intention is worth far more than the amount.
I don’t have the details either but bandwidth is big, so think big $$$’s.
Thanks a lot, Ted.
