Hi peoples,

My name is Stephen and I have recently joined the forum. I live in Northern Ireland in a little seaside village.

I am 44yrs and have recently (last 2 years) got myself back into audio. Seems Im not in the minority of 'born-again enthusiasts'. Gone and bought myself a motorbike after 20 yrs, then went and joined the 'Audio-Upgrade' queue. Is this a male menopause thing?

Well I have interests in Reel to Reel, Vinyl and messing around with record decks. I am building a website on the history (birth and death) of StrathearnAudio during the 1970s here in Belfast. I collect their decks and hope to add to a forgotten history.

I havent much experience in the DIY Audio field...other than building cabinets for Moth record cleaning machines. Yes woodwork has become another hobby.

My present set up consists mainly of 1970s and 1980s equpment. Max Townshend mono amps, Strathearn SM2000 record deck, Michell Hydraulic Transcriptor deck, Akail GX-77 Reel to Reel, various Denon bits and Arcaydis A3 Speakers.

Im still finding my way around sounds to get a good setup, hence joining this site.

See you all around

Regards
Stephen (Reeler)

Welcome Stephen,

You are certainly right about the "born again" audio enthusiasts.
For some of us this is but one symptom of a mid-life crisis that can involve other things such as getting into sports cars....

Enjoy the forums,

Hey Stephen,

Ok, you gave my my first hoest really good laugh of the day with that male menopause thing!
Here I am, going on 50 in December; having been seriously sidetracked for many years am:
>building a rockin' car stereo system like I had in the 70's. I didn't lose my hearing at all of those concerts, but am working on some serios damage now - right in my Saturn staion wagon.
>building home audio projects, such as a portable amplified speaker with dock for mp3 player...
>home surround sound with dvd projector, screen and such - very much on a budget
>growing my hair a bit, doing pushups, returning to school, and considering asking a pretty lass there out...
My priorities aren't really for the big-bucks high-end home or car audio, but I DO like nice sounds, so I am diy'ing the very best of used and cobbled together eqpt to produce some really decent sound. The high-end boys wouldn't have you believe it, but much can be done with less expensive eqpt!
God Bless, old timer. Bdog
