i need a subwoofer level controller for my car. can i use a dual gang audio taper pot? can i just solder some rca connectors to it or does it need additional circuitry?

Hasn't your head unit got adjustable level for sub out?

Connecting a pot like you mentioned is not really a very good idea as it will make the sub more susceptible to noise and also load your head unit more.

The best thing to do is just spend some time setting the amp gain right.

my HU doesn't have a sub out. i'm also running an eq so the output of the eq to the sub amp is what i want to control. maybe i'll quit being cheap and get and audiocontrol epicenter.

in most cases, it will work. as long as you wire the pot correctly.

although as mentioned, you might have some problems with noise since the amp's gain setting will be turned way up and set (reduced) at your new pot.
