Just a short note to say hello, looking around there appears to be a wide range of interesting and knowledgeable people here. Something to be proud of!

I'm just getting back into the audio scene after many years playing bass guitar in a band then spending more than a passing interest rock climbing in local midge infested quarries for the last ten years. I would like to live a little longer so it's time to hang up the sticky rubber shoes and do some safer stuff.

The upshot is that I've got a garage stuffed with vinyl and I intend to try and squeeze some more fun out of the investment made in my impressionable youth(ish). I will shortly buy a turntable, advice is welcome, but would like to build my own phono stage and amplifier. I like valve technology probably due to using Marshalls and HiWatts in my playing days. Plus I remember my uncle had a pair of Quad valve amps, he played Dark Side of the Moon to me years ago and it just sounded wonderful. I've got the SACD version and it's good through my home cinema system but the overall feel and separation just doesn't seem the same. Anybody else got a similar experience? I've had some experience designing and building valve equipment so hopefully will learn stuff here and will gladly share my experiences with everyone else.

I tend to go on a bit so I'll shut up now, anyway hello to you all.

Welcome to the forum. We love valves here (and vinyl). How about a Garrard 301 on a nice solid plinth?
