| Pardon this dumb question but when building my aleph P 1.7 I am at the wiring stage. I was going to use shielded cable from the input and output connectors to the board. Is this really necessary, can I use unshielded wire? I searched the forum and can't find anything. |

Hi,
I used unshielded cable inside my X-BOSOZ and have no problems whatsoever.
Even the short pieces of wire to the ONO boards input are unshielded.
The only thing I did do is to remove the power supply into a seperate case.

saw inside of many expensive pre amps from the Japanese Stereo Sound magazine. All of them I saw had unshielded wires and unshielded PCBs.
My BOSOZ also has unshielded p2p wires all the way even with the transformer inside the same box.

I have also used unshielded cable in my BZLS and it works very quiet.

Twisting the signal and ground leads together keeps the two in close proximity, thus allowing the ground to shield the signal fairly efficiently. In principle, you can accomplish the same thing with the wires side-by-side (think Nordost). The trick then is to keep them together. I've always meant to try some of that flat computer ribbon wire with alternating signal and ground, or better yet, three wires in a ground-signal-ground configuration. Never get around to doing so.
