Searching schematic for connecting mp3player to car antenna - Click HERE for Original Thread

My pioneer HU doesn`t have a audio input so i want to connect my laptop to my HU through the FM antenne, i tried google but couldn`t find any schematic`s partially cause i don`t know how to call it in english. Does anybody have a schematic or something else i could use? it can`t be that hard to create (like to build it myself instead of buying a device which probably costs too much).

i think the best way is to open up your HU and connect the signal directly , but if u really want to use the antenna try to find a low power FM transmitter circuit on the net
here's one from Rods site http://sound.westhost.com/project54.htm
there are stereo transmitters also ' try to find one

SSS that does sound like a good idea, opening up the HU, do you know what to look for, it`s a pioneer DEH-3330R. no support for cd-changer.
sss
u should look for the amp , usially its a chip amp connected to a heatsink , after that check for the datasheets and see where the input pins are , the connect your signal to the amps input pins .....
maddog_rvo
if i do that, i need to insert a cd and set it on pause???

will the volume control still work if i connect directly??
sss
the volume controll will not work if u will connect to the amp , but , u can connect the signal to the vol controll and then u'll be ok

first check the chip amp , if it got muting circuitry then u should disconnect it

keep in mind you will void the warranty of your headunit~!!! It can be done...and with careful planning, you could add a couple of connectors behind that serve as "inputs". I have yet to see Head Units without line-in jacks though...I suppose budget HUs do'nt have them...?
maddog_rvo
It`s an older HU, and i don`t have the money to buy a new one with line in.
li_gangyi
well...then a simple "hack" as described will do...or you can find those Cassette tape kinda adapter where u plug a cassette with a line-in thingy tpo the Mp3 player and into the tape slot...
maddog_rvo
wow it`s not that old, it`s a cdplayer :clown: with 2 preouts for the amps
li_gangyi
hahax...then I guess you really have to go inside...
maddog_rvo
well just opened it up, it contains :
Pioneer Mosfet, Pal006A - B225C0103 (think it`s the amp)
Pioneer PE524 - 78493 - 0106KX
Pioneer PM4009A - 0043K3012

and a circuit which is in a sort of metal casing, think that`s for the tuner part.

I can`t find a datasheet about the mosfet, am still searching for the other 2 chips
sss
it looks like there's a mosfet amp , not a chip amp
maddog_rvo
I just did it :D . I wrecked the tuner part, there was a extra print soldered with wires to the main print and two wires were named LCH and RCH. I cut these wires and i listened to the radio, no sound. So i soldered some plugs on it and a DPTP switch and now i can switch between tuner and a AUX source

There`s only one problem, it works perfect as long as the source doesn`t draw the power from the car battery, then i get a LOT of noise. I connected the ground wire from the source signal to the source ground -> no succes, also connecting the ground from source power to radio power doesn`t work

Does anyone have a solution, i only didn`t try the ground loop isolator which i should have somewere lying around, gonna try that one tonight. In the meantime feel free to post a possible solution ;)
li_gangyi
yeah I do...it's sorta "bad practice" just cut the ground going into the RCA input...meaning from ur source...just connect the signal to the in of ur modified headamp...forget about the ground for now...test and see if it helps...
djQUAN
the ground loop isolator works 100% of the time in my case. haven't seen a reason it won't work. although depending on the internal signal transformer of the isolator, you will get some slight signal degradation (frequency response).
maddog_rvo
will try disconnecting the rca ground to see if that helps, thnx for the help
maddog_rvo
disconnected ground from RCA, only noise from the HD remains :(
this is tested with the ground loop isolator, ground for power is connected directly to the ground for the HU
david90
did u figured it out? I like the idea of the project.
