Found the forums while looking for something else. Impressed by both philosophical & technical discussions. Also at th scope of the projects some members undertake (DIY Vinyl Cutter Building in particular!) Enjoyed the thread about diode noise, and how led colour seems tto related to amount of noise... So, pink leds must surely generate pink noise : until they fade completely back to grubby blue-white when the pink phosphor paint inside exhausts :-)

Am in the process of building a DJ mixer from scratch - so I get the features, layout, build quality, component quality I want plus reliabilty, maintainabilty, using standard easily obtainable parts. Also making a meter bridge (built onto a huge Edwardian mahogany overmantle rescued from a demolision site) This will fit across the rear of pair of Technics 1210s and mixer. Will have BIG analogue Sifam VUs. PPMs plus led metering in unusal (possibly even meaningful) colours - and allow for neater cabling - no more nests of tangling cables

(Of cables and wires - whether audio, data, mains, ethernet, etc; the only working cable you can find is aways: far too long, far too short, 90 degree when you need it straight, 5A rated if you need 13A, or has rubber 'grips', enormous strain-relief glands, stiff, overlarge cable, or the latest in funky cable ID systems - so a connector pair won't physically fit any pair of panel sockets on any of your equipment - or it *seems* to fit, then falls out at an inappropriate moment.....)

Partner & I service (& modify) Technics 1200 & 1210 decks but try not to have to even open most modern DJ mixers <shudders> Partner has an unerring ability to take horrible cheap PA speakers/drivers and improve them into something actually decent sounding. He's also likes to wind-his-own inducters (any other coil-winding freaks on here?)

I'm in love with the Tannoy Eaton 10" HPD dual-concentric (circa 1978) I rescued from friend's trash 3 years ago (they left it outside in the rain all weekend - which ruined the cabinet veneer, the fragile front grille fabric, and apparently 'blew up the driver (!) It's pair was 'lost' some years ago.) I got it home to find a connector unplugged inside. The HPD driver & original crossover were undamaged. It worked perfectly and sounded lovely (still does) but really looked horrible and the cabinet exterior was a hopeless case. I stripped the peeling veneer, reglued all the joints, and don't bother with a grille. I painted the outside wreckage of the box in textured funky colours and may yet cover the box in fur fabric.

Welcome to diyAudio :) Good to have another UK member!

Your rambling is interesting, even to me with no interest in DJ mixers...

Have you found anywhere (apart from Canford Audio) who stocks a decent range of Sifam meters?

Thanks for the welcome.

Apart from Carnford Audio and Farnell (who used to stock Sifam, not sure if they still do), I've not found any other stockists of new Sifam meters. I was lucky enough to pick up a couple of 'old stock' unused ones surplus a while back, and have also bought a few similar quite cheaply on ebay.

Have you had any luck on the mixer building. I was considering doing something myself especially after I have been using the Allen and Heath V6. I have heard the rega arm change over makes a huge difference in the quality of the sound to.
