problem with my gainclone! - Click HERE for Original Thread
taloyd
hello,

Just finished my Gainclone, using the PCB's from the BrianGT group buy. Everything went well, everything seems fine, BUT:

With any input other than a portable discman, the amplifier doesn't function properly.

With my passive preamp, the gain is 1 (ie: unity). There is almost no sound unless it's all the way up, in which case there's still not much.

With my CDP with variable out (from my living room system, a CAL CL-15 (really really high-end) there is hideous noise at a very high but consistent level (doesn't change with music). But the amplifier amplifies and music comes out (sounding nice, except for the noise-to-signal ratio).

Advice? Any measurements I can take to find the problem?

thanks,

What value components have you used?

It sounds like you may have mixed up the resistors. Gain is determined by R2 and R3 (I'm not thinking clearly with zero sleep in 30 hours so double check that :dead: ). If you mix up the values you will get the result you describe.
