Heya guys just a quick question, how manny have cracked condensers using a soup laddel as a reflector? the reason i ask is cos i know why they crack if your using that kind of reflector, and out of interest.

| It wasn't a oup ladel but I was using a spherical reflector when my condensor broke. I do beleive it was due to not allowing for expansion as the lens got hot. Dumb but we must learn from our mistakes. |

K lol, ive been running tests up, ive found a way to get about 80% of light from a 250w hqi, but it fries condensers, yess thats right temperd ones, it has nothing to do with exspantion on the mountings in this case, its just simply over heating the glass to a point where if just fractures it self to peices lol. Much more light but at a cost.

Hi Trev!
I read you mentioning about being able to increase the efficiency of 250w hqi-ts light engine. Is it posssible that you share it with us?
BTW, thank you very much for sharing so many of your work in this forum. I had learned alot from it. |

I can buddy but im still working on it, i did manage to use about 80% of the light but there are heat issues in the primary proto, i started the modd again last night and all seems good, im going to try a 3rd and we will see how that goes, if all good ill post it up.

lol, theres no special trick and it's not magic. It's just a matter of using the right glass type for the condenser lens. I had custom lenses made up that arent even tempered and sitting on a 400 watt ushio with a DIY spherical reflector work flawlessly.
How did I figure this out? I contacted an optic company and asked lol. They asked for the specs of the bulb, and how I was using it. They then said that they didn't temper lenses and that I didn't need it tempered. A few weeks later I got a prototype free of charge and it worked great.

This may sound lame , other than getting off on making the gizzmo, what about the fire hazard and the power bills lol.
All that said i think it's "magic"
When you start mass producing them keep the price down, so i can afford to run it lol :hot: |
