Hello: Today I bought a Lilliput 7" on ebay. Before open It I'll ask the forum how I should manage the static.
As I've red in this forum many people have problems with static.
Please guide me how should I work, what caution should I have, etc.
I don't want to waste my money, and here for Argentina it's cost its very expensive.
Thank you |

| You want to keep yourself grounded. Touching the metal on your computer case is one way. Link1 Link2 |

Dont touch it is an easier way lol, make sure you are working on a table that has no table cloth, and touch metal once in a while like every 5mins. Dont touch the chips either with your fingers, especially the one on the small lcd pcb, that one is the one thats causing issues.

| I used one of those strapped to the radiator, and didn't have problems with static. |

Thank you all guys.
But I'm afraid that touching my computer will not work because I don't have it connected to ground.
It's possible if I connect the wrist with a long cable to the metal of the water system of my house ?
Thank you |

The metal of your water system should work fine.
Do you use a two prong plug for your computer? |

yeah the 2 prong are actually grounded if the have the metal on the sides of the plugg, if not its not grounded, we have the same type of power points here in spain and its grounded, not all houses are though lol.
As for using the water pipes for a ground, well ill tell u somthing, what happends if your house has a fault? where does it go? not in all but some old places to the water pipes, its actually illegal and causes a huge electricution danger, my dad got a boot from our water pipes quite some years ago, it hearly killed him.
So i wouldnt recomend to use the water pipes to ground yourself unless that is ofcourse you can touch your tap and not get a boot lol.
Those anti static wrist straps are a waste of money, all you have to do is touch your tap or your comp case grounded or not, any metal will do and all is fine, just do it often, even a metal bench leg works providing you didnt dragg the table over carpet first lol

| Its not easy making electrical suggestions when dealing with other countries. Each has its own code. At the very least you could put a metal stake in the ground, and run a wire from it for you to touch and ground yourself. Earth is the true ground. |

In a few days I'm telling you my experience.

Just put your foot in a lake lol thats more of a ground then a copper stake. Even a bath full of water will do.

| A bath is getting back to the water pipe issue, as you would say "lol". Living on a houseboat would make a lake very accessible. |

Not if you have a pvc drain pipe. The water taps are in the wall.

| But tap water conducts. |

To the bath? the taps are in the wall, the taps have no contact with the water in the bath unless flowing, the drain pipe is pvc, so what can it conduct to? the bricks on the wall? but then it is pwder coated and if the bath is fiberglass then nothing, it can only conduct to you.
