I' m going to buy an ancient LCD projector to modify it... Which is Philips LCP 5200.
http://www.angelfire.com/linux/darkstar71/phase1.htm
I think its production date is 1995 or 1996, I have not seen the projector but I am concerned about LCD screen life / dead pixels...
Also, I seen ace's posts about UV damage on lcd screens and I am concerned again lol..
So what is the average life an lcd screen ?
PS: the lcd screen I' m talking about is 0.7" / 180.000 pixels tft panel. |

as far as i know 3 things can happen
1. the crytals can fade i beleive this can be caused by heat/UV/IR
2. the controlerboard gets damaged and thus the lcd will not work
3. all the crytals in the lcd die
well there the only things i can think that will make it now work, an lcd panel cannot just suddely seace to work it would happen over a period of time, well unless the controler board goes then that may happen suddenly.

Thx so much Ryan. I talked with seller today, he said " projector is refurbished ... "
He also said " I had some blurry picture approx one year ago, and filters are changed because of this issue " and I said lol haha, what filters that could be..?
He said some 3 noisy fans inside of it and transformer modification is possible for stronger bulbs
I' m waiting for tomorrow, I have a rendezvous with the seller guy .. nolol :-). |

ok guys I bought it :), and it looks like very friendly to modifying lol
I am posting some pictures, you can see how small it is ( scale is my hand :-)
I think I could use any bulb 250w or 500w, because back side is completely removable :D , so I can make a little box for external lamp / transformator, I hope I could be succesful... |

I have tried the projector last night, it was really awful but I was expecting this kind of very poor results because of its price.
Light output is under 100 lumens imo, but it is acceptable with 30"-40" picture size (in a very dark room)
Screen door effect is terrible also... I' m not sure about 960x234 pixel mobile lcd tv's but this could be worsen than that.
Good news is, lighting part is totally removable, so I could modify it easily. I want to use 250w halogen bulb, I will need a little box for external lamp / transformer and fan.
Also, there is a solution for screen door (mosaic effect lol) effect. , as you know long distance phone call lol hahaa is exact solution for this s.it
So screen door effect is not really a problem, it is soluble...
When I have some time, I will try to make box for external light source. BTW, I want to use a fresnel lens if I could squeeze it :-) , because there is no fresnel in it, only condenser lens in it. |
