New Light Sorce Cheap And No Heat - Click HERE for Original Thread

I found these on EBAY earlier today, I think this could work for DIY projectors!!

500 Watt Fluorex Grow Light - READY TO HANG

This light uses a new light technology called FluoreX - it not HPS or MH - it has the same light spectrum as a MH light. Has a Kelvin rating of 6500 and puts out over 8,000 Lumens based on a study conducted at Stanford University. putting out the Blueish/White Full Spectrum Light so commonly found in Metal Halide bulbs but only draws 65 watts of electricity - which only costs pennies a day to operate.

Perfect for the vegetative stage and cloning. It gives off so little heat it is perfect for smaller spaces, and for places where heat may cause a problem.

Size is approx. 12" x 8"

Brand new - tested before shipped out.

Comes with 6ft cord that plugs into any standard household outlet - ALSO comes READY TO HANG with 2 S-hooks and two - 4 foot lengths of chain that makes adjusting the height of the light extremely easy.

HERE IS THE EBAY LINK!

hehe

that was one of the first rejected light sources around 2 years ago when this forum started. cant remember what was wrong with it, but it just didnt work right.

2 years ago, these are brand new like this month!

??????

I saw one of these today, very bright, 8000 lumens, 6500k, and reflect nicely.

If you can find out why these would not work I would love to know before i buy 1.

2 reason why that won't work...

1. it's not a point source of any kind.

and 2. 8000 lumens. My bulb is 33,000 lumens and the EYE lumenlabs is using is 36000 lumens.

You would need 4 of them... and even THAT wouldn't work.

The bigger the bulb, the bigger the reflector! For DIY Video, you want the smaller the bulb, the smaller the reflector. Ideally you want a micro SUN with around 5 to 6 K light temp with controllable output and no heat. Find that, please!

I wish i could find a small bulb with a small reflector capable of delivering 40,000 lumens with little heat and a 6500k color temp.

If i could find this I would be a very happy guy!

it may be a new product, but that EXACT thing was the FIRST real proposed light source on this forum, trust me.

Ya it was, they do work but not that good.

What if you used a dif. reflector turning it into a point light?
cowanrg
it was called the LOA (light(s) of america?). it was that exact same thing. everyone tried to use it. i even had one. it had decent light output, but was very diffuse. search for LOA, and you will see posts dating back to early 2002 regarding the lamp.

That will be the greatest invention (in lighting) after Thomas Edison
cowanrg
for some reason, you really think this is the next best thing.

its not. as stated above, its too diffuse to work, and even if you could put it into a light collector, you would need 4 of them. if you can design something that collects light from 4 of these, focuses it, and sends it into one beam, i applaud you. but that would be VERY difficult to do.

Well u can turn it into a point of light, place it in a box and drill a small hole in the side of the box, there's your point of light lol:D

haha.

i remember way back in the days people tried that... putting the light in a box, poking a hole, and coating the whole inside of the box with reflective paint, or foil.

did it work? no. :)

It works with a halogen, the box turns into an oven lol, modd a cordless screw driver to stay on all of the time, abit of wire and u got a rotisery lol.:D

But yeah seriously, if they wer bright enough and if the loa did work it would be good heat wise, though, from 1 year of discusion of this type of lamp, i havnt seen anything working too crash hot yet lol.

2001 i think that bulb was mentioned in here, or atleast in this site: http://www.audiovisualizers.com/madlab/lcd_proj.htm
from good old trusty bill.

I did do a search on LOA; I now understand the situation a little better. Thanks for the humor:)

Since I have an LOA already I might mess with it anyway.
