Hi,
Im just asking for personal experiences really. I am wanting to use a 7" LCD for my projector (lilliput) or a seform one ( $145 for VGA version) although i dont know if the seform one will work :S
But anyway, I have £166 to spend at the moment. Am i best getting an OHP and a panel? The OHP would opbviously need good amount of lumens. Or should i get an ATX case etc with MH setup/triplet lens?
Remember im on a £166 limit at the moment.
Thanks, any replys with your info is appreciated. |

Well, the ohp route is the easiest, for sure. I am using a 7" non-vga ( 480x234 composite ) lcd on a 3M 1730. It uses a 360 watt halogen, and considering it was simple and cheap, I am totally satisfied with my results. I am projecting at 8' diagonal, or close to 100".

| Personally i think DIY is usually going to be cheaper . But it depends on if you want to price your time or not |

The overhead projector/panel route would be cheapest IF you can look around and find a overhead projector around where you live. You can usually pick them up at garage sales (I purchase 2 at them) as well as college sales, Sate sales, and auctions. If you purchase one close by like that you usually will not pay much for them (I have not paid over $25 for a overhead yet and I have purchased 4). You can get them on ebay but shipping will kill ya.
A panel can be had fairly cheap on ebay (but you have to sit back and watch as some people are wanting $$$$$$ for what amounts to junk). Make sure you know the specs of the panel (not what they say in the ad because the sellers are often wrong).

| If you intend to display a computer desktop, the non-vga will be quite blurry. But if you're only concern is to watch movies it will work just fine. The vga will still have a better picture, but it's up to you whether or not it's worthwhile. Another consideration for you, a DIY setup w/ a metal halide will have way better bulb life ( 20,000 hrs, avg. ) than a typical ohp's halogen ( 150ish ). Next time around, I will build my own, but for a first time go at it just to see how it would look I went with the ohp. I was too impatient to build anything, It took 5 min's to strip the lcd and place it on top and turn it on. |
