http://www.diylabs.org/projector/pa...description.htm

and this ballast;

work together cuz i am not sure if you need a special ballast for HQIs
ace3000_1
it wont work, you need a M80 ballast.
Crazed_climber
thanks man. Im glade i didn't get them:) so all hqi bulbs need a m80 ballast?

hey crazed climber,

it'll work. don't worry. it's a ballast for mh lamps w different inputs for the according mains voltage. it's just a magnetic ballast for the proper amperage of a 250 hqi bulb. ignitor is also delivered.
noo worry not to buy.
sorry ace. ;)

From what I've read most metal halides (just ordinary ones, not uhp) at the same wattage will run on the same ballasts, the only one that needs a different one (to other 400w bulbs) is a 400w HQI-T I think, this is just from memory though.

Ever heard of thermal protection? and hqi bulbs do run at a different amperage and arc voltage, sure its minimal but we dont want to go chewing up bulbs before we have to because we bought the wrong ballast in the first place that is over driving our lamp do we? lol

Hqi lamps are different from a normal metal halide lamp, just look inside of the 2 and you can clearly see the diff. Hqi bulbs must be run on thermally protected ballasts aswell, or you will do damage to either your ignitor or your bulb.

ahh, yeah sorry ace. i hadn't had in mind the thermal protection.
sorry to crazed climber and thanks to ace protecting climber of a misfortune. sorry again.

Ok, quick question to make sure I never go wrong buying ballasts. Will other metal halides than hqi's run on thermally protected ballasts?
Thanks
Bob
