I love the font you used and the overall effect. I think there needs to be something above the "com" so that you can see the top edge of the m.
Somehow, not seeing the "hump" in the m is vaguely disturbing.
(Perhaps a variation of my imperfect waves would loog good in that corner.) |

I like this idea so much that I have also done my own variation.
I still think the tops of the m should not be made invisible.
There is room, I like having the dot literally in the logo as well.

...I say lame, because the original design uses the different colour to delineate the words and suggest the position of the dot. (I really have no idea what i'm talking about.) What I mean is mine looks like diy.audio.com now.
And while I'm all for the existing logo's funny purpley blue in the existing logo, there's "something about" the red and original logo exactly as it is, something I've seen before, perhaps in the future...

Seriously, it's a good logo in any colour. The best 'simple' one that I've seen, though I still like a good complex outing with plenty of bits and bobs on it :cool: |

I still don't like the typographic implications of losing important readability info like the tops of the m. There are some things you can leave off of certain letters, and have them still "read", but the tops of the m is NOT one of them.
I have found a different rationale for putting something solid behind the m in this logo.
I have also very slightly rearranged the letters so that the spacing is more even and other visual cues for the positions of the letters are preserved.

| BTW, if my contributions to this logo idea are accepted, the prize still should still go to the original creator of this direction. The font and the position of the COM letters are the key ideas, and my variations are just a minor change. |

I understand what you're trying to do but it just looks fussed about with now. The .com is too dominant whereas in the original it added subtle dynamics.
edit: I don't mean that to sound too critical but IMO this is one logo that doesn't require any developing. |

I'm not at home right now so I don't have access to any programs that can save this as a gif.
But I was thinking that the .COM part was looking too large myself, and the solution is just to make it a little smaller. |

Admittedly the m relies on curvature to give give the clue that it's not saying "coni" or something (we know it doesn't), and it's a reasonably square font so at small sizes this clue does become less perceptible.
On the other hand some work is delivered "done" and no amount of tweaking or inspiration is going to make it any more done. I'm extremely artistically incompetent (in a visual sense) so really I'm
talking through a hole in my head.

Yeah, my version may not be an improvement.
Unfortunately, IMHO the unreadability of the "m" in the .COM is a major problem in this design, no matter how cute it is when you first look at it. |

Heh, i've never dealed with tubes, so i dont know how do they looks like at schematics ) The one i draw was a kind of triode(?), but modified to fit the logo... :)

In my opinion and just really my .02$ if this has taken so long and as a contributor to the logo comp, remove all posts until the mods are ready to make a general decision as to what they would like to have as a design. remove the threads end the waste of bandwidth and my mailbox.

So, has the competition closed now? Are we to believe that after several hundred entries not one has been deemed good enough for the high standards of the diy audio moderators?
Unfortunately, that is the risk you take when you open a design competition, but there is still the issue of all the work that was put in by a great many of us. You may decide that you won't after all use any of the entries, or may not any longer want to change the logo. But to just cut most of the thread out (probably to save bandwidth; I understand that) and then just leave it hanging, is more than a little unfair. Those prizes were allocated to be given away, surely?
