Need Advice on new Amp - Click HERE for Original Thread
Bryan
Hey Guys,

My solid state amp (Krell KSA 100S) blew up, and is beyond repair. I need to replace it with something a little more appropriate (ie. tube). I know this is the DIY forum, and I have a few DIY amps in the works, but I like to have one commercial amp for wihich to compare my DIY stuff. So, that being said, I need a new refference amp, and I would like your suggestions.

System:
NAD S500 (Transport) Soon to be replaced...
AudioNote DAC KIT 1.2 (Modded)
Audio Research SP9MKIII, or DIY 12B4A preamp
(Fill in the blank)
ProAc D15.

I want to keep it in the 2-2.5K range. Thinking about AR VT100MKII.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Bryan

Bryan,

IMO, you should think long and hard about acquiring and refurbing a Harmon/Kardon Citation II.

I own a Jim McShane refurbed Cit 2. The amp is GREAT. At 60 WPC continuous and 120+ instantaneous, all but the most power hungry speakers are suitable for use with the H/K. ARC makes good amps, but the "iron" in the H/K is BETTER.
