improve light design for small (4"/5") tft's? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi DIY'ers

Most of have build the small 4"/5" tft design before going to the "real" stuff. So did I . One thing i noticed is that even with a condensor you lose a lot of light (not all condensed light hits the small tft. Now i though of a improved design for this small tft's.

So i think of using a extra negative lens and a stronger fresnell to condens the condensed light even more. Ofcourse your will need a bigger fresnell than your tft so your box will get larger, but it will increase the light I think.
So do you think this will work?

I can get small 4" round (foil) fresnells with a focal of 100mm
And maybe those negative fresnells for backviewing in cars can be used as negative lens.

Do you forsee any problems?

looks like a good idea to me.....but couldn't you just adjust the angle the light leaves the engine with a more focused reflector?......keeping it on a narrower path until it hits the condensor and so forth.....

that idea would seem to work in my eyes....but just adds the cost and time of using yet another lens in a four lens setup.....

When you use a spherical reflector you don't want parallel light beams befor the condensor e.a. so that wont work. Finding a eliptical reflector will work, but where do you get one????

So do what do other DIY'ers think? when you use a 8" fresnell for a 4"tft you will already get dubble the light.
