I've got two 250 watt bulbs and balasts lying around, would it be possible to run both of them at the same time?
I'd need to put them quite close together in order for them to remain in the centre of the fresnel's line of focus. How close could they be before over heating? and how affective would this be compaired to using a single 500w bulb?
I could place a very thick piece of low e in between them

| ... i think i remember someone saying that their ohp had the option of running both the spare and the origional bulbs at the same time for xtra brightness. Does anyone else have this and how far apart are the two bulbs? |

Are they the big bulbs or the double ended tubes?
You could put one right behind the other, but the bigger the bulb ,the bigger the problems. You need a point source for use with a fresnel (for DIY), the smaller and brighter the better. If 250 is not enough, you probably be better off with one 400.

They are 4.5cm high and 1.5cm width ways. Single ended

Great, thats solved all my problems. I cant believe u can just stick them right next to each other like like that.

| If you want a slightly harder way to do it, you could use a 50:50 beamspliter at a 45 degree angle infront of one bulb and the other bulb to the side so that is reflected off the beamsplitter, this would mean you still use both bulbs but they are both the right distance from the fresnel and in the center. |

| Thats not a bad idea actually, Both ways will be a little hard. I think ill look in to the costs and see which is cheapest and which one takes up most space etc |
