hi guys, after some looking around at the local places(altronics, jaycar, dicksmith) i cant find any irfp240 mosfets in australia :(
crossreferencing irfp240 on the onsemi webpage came up with this result
http://www.onsemi.com/pub/Collateral/MTW32N20E-D.PDF
however im worried about the higher rd(s) on resistance, its almost 3x higher than what IR state on their mosfet.. being
http://www.irf.com/product-info/dat...ata/irfp244.pdf

is the onsemi(motorolla) acceptable as a replacement?

The big deal about this (according to NP) is the capacity and the vgs, the on resistance is of minor importance.

Ive been playing with substitutes from both fairchild and onsemi, MTW32N20E is fine, it actually give you a little better base, but some say its not as good as irfp240 for the high. I couldnt detect any change in any way, same goes for several fairchild substitutes. Id say have a go, you might be pleasently surprised.

Take a look at fairchild as well.

And the main point about the capacity effect, is the non linearities of it, more than the absolute value (that also counts, of course).
That's why the IRFP044 is preferred over the 200V units.
