Best choice for in/out caps Aleph p 1.7 - Click HERE for Original Thread

Please help me, last two weeks I spend looking for good quality capacitors for input and output (10uf) in P 1.7. I'm completely confused. Is it good to use high voltage ones? Please suggest a brand or anything that will provide me with most transparent sounding caps.
THANKS!

bbakota2000,

You can find:
Metallized Polypropylene Film Capacitor made in France
from: 0.01 ... 330 µF, E 24 series, ±5 %, ±2 %.

like these at: www.solen.ca

For input caps...;)

To my ears, once the values go over 2 - 3 ufd the best coupling caps are Black Gate NX. The 10 ufd plastic caps have always sounded a lttle rubbery in my systems.

Hi bbakota...
I do remember that people post that they have best results with BG...

Yes - WIMA MKP10

What about VISATON 10uF MKP 250V? I have 16 pcs of them but haven’t tried them yet. What I see as a drawback - they're rather big.

What do you think is the size of Wima MKPs? (i would not wonder if they are from the same manufacturing line)

I use wima MKS, have no problems, and they are smaller than MKP but still not really small. But much less expensive.

I´ve used WIMA MKS4 10 MuF in my X-BOSOZ and ONO projects.

Would it be good to put Black Gates N series for input and Solen or WIMA for output. I think that input caps should be much better than the output ones in P 1.7. Any suggestions on this!

Siemens MKV :devilr:

In case you really belive electrolytics are (good) capacitors - do so.

I will not.
Peter Daniel
Let me pour some snakeoil. I belive that BG N type caps are much better than those Wimas. BG N caps are not your usual electrolytcs, but special blend that outperforms all the other electrolytics in coupling applications. I prefer them even to Jensens and Hovlands caps. ;)

PS: If you check percyaudio.com catalog, this is what he writes about those caps:

"Unrivaled performance in a unique graphite impregnated electrolytic design with ESR 1/5 to 1/20 that of
ordinary electrolytics, minimal phase delay, and extremely low noise floor, exceeding -160dB for some models.
No other electrolytic compares for low distortion, sonic purity, and extremely long life (up to 10X other electrolytics)."

He also had this piece of info posted on his site previously, but I guess it was way too much snakeoil so he removed it.:)

Thanks to Peter here is the caps that I have tried....

Yeah, Siemens MKV is one of the few caps that are better than BG N for coupling.;)

In a couple of weeks I will show new Aleph P 1.0 here.

All coupling caps will be huge cans Siemens MKV

It will use Siemens Sikorel 125 PS caps and Elna ladder type attenuator.

Does anyone know where can I buy Siemens Sikorel caps?
zygibajt
Probably Epcos now,as Siemens company has been bought.

I bought mine NOS in a surplus store.
