Anyone know a source for a large (~30A) 6.3v filament transformer? Thanks!

Surplus would be prefered, of course.:)

Where are you in NY? 12V@16A I can do...

Actually in Jersey just north of Hoboken, but closer to the city than some parts of the city.

How about a modded PSU from a computer?
These have high current DC 5v supplies, if modded could be run at 6.3 possibly......

i think you would have to re design the whole Com SMPS.

most don`t an output capability anywhere near 6.3v.

well, i saw a 7.2v 35ampere SMPS at a surplus shop the day before. i wonder if you can find this sorta things where you reside.
Tensop
you can usualy get 6.3v out of a comp psu by adjusting the duty cycle

their current output would range from 15 amps to 50 amps, depending on brand and such :)

problem being that the smoothing caps are all rated 6.3v. i wonder if it is possible to increase the voltage with the turn of a simple pot?

Aww heck, they won't mind.

Yeeeah, electrolytics have a 10% tolerance right?
I looked into switchers, they're cheap and some are adjustable, but most are only good for about 10% more voltage. 5.5v is close, but not quite enough.

At the low load you'll be running, I wonder if it'll even mind the lower emission.

Hmm, that may be true. Are there any tell tale signs that a hydrogen thyratron is unhappy if the volatge turns out to be to low? Thanks!
