Mini running @ +/- 18 Volts, 1.5 Amp bias. 80,000 uf. per rail.
MikeW
It runs about 45 dge C after be on over night.
MikeW
Thanks for the labels.

Sound?
Alain Dupont
MikeW,

Wouahhhh, beautiful one.

Regards.

Wow Mike!

Nice amp

Can you tell me what are the dimensions of heatsinks?

Sound?
MikeW
The amp sounds nice. More bass than expected. The heatsinks are 11 x 6 x 2.25 inches. It runs about 45 deg. C.

Looks more like a Maxi to me.

Great looking amp you made there.
It doesn´t look so mini to me... lol
How much power does it give?
MikeW
I haven't measurd it yet. I am guessing 10-15 watts.
Dennis Hui
Hi Mike,

Cute amp. I like the wood and the nice sticker up front. :)

BTW, how many mini-a's have you built? This must be
like your fifth?

Cheers,
Dennis
MikeW
You are right.
Fifth, I will have to go to Mini-A.A. :clown:

I didn't keep all of them.:D
roddyama
So Mike,

Did you cut your mini-A board in half?

Glad you didn't, my Lowthers have never sounded so good!

MikeW
Yes, I did cut it in half. There are no traces in the middle and the ground plane is seperated.
MikeW
-/+ 16.4 volts @clipping into 7.5 ohms @ 1 Khz.

Mike,

Great work, how about some shots of the insides.

Now if Rodd would get his sorry butt to work, and build one.:D :D :D

Hey Mike,

Very attractive amplifier, thanks for sending it so we could all admire your work.

Karen thanks you too, commenting that next time it snows the PassDiy bench will be quite cozy.

Life at her bench has been quite difficult since "Stupidicus Domesticus" the "Heater Cat" went seeking warmer climate.

MikeW
Your welcome. Thanks for all the support.
Note: the bias is 1.5 amps across each source resistors. Fifty one watts of heat per sink.

Looks great. That's gonna be my next project after A2. Thanks for the board. How many IRFP240 did you use per side ? Have you build your AX yet.

:)

MikeW
I used two 260's for each channel.
My AX board is all stuffed. The power supply and housing are not done yet. I have a couple of other projects in line first.:smash:
MikeW
How are you doing on your Mini projects?:smash:
SI
In the process of making the chasis. If it wasn't for the chasis building process it would be a lot more fun, I think. I just hope it's worth all that when it 's to fire up the amp.:(
vdi_nenna
Did any of the FETs require matching?
MikeW
Match the input 9610's.
vdi_nenna
Cool! Got those matched already! :cheerful:

This is the amp I did the higher voltage less current experiments with. That is why there is such a large space for the transformer.
SI
Very nice cabinet. What did you use for the front and top?

Regards
SAAD//
MikeW
The top is marble. The front is Aluminum and Canary wood.
MikeW
The last of the boards are gone. I am looking forward to see some nice Mini's. Thank to everyone in the forum for all the advice and entertainment.:) :hypno1:
vdi_nenna
Mike,

I don't know if I asked this before, but what should the variable resistor be set to? What are we looking to see? 0 volts at the output? Or, does it set the bias?

Thanks,

Vince
MikeW
It is there so adjust the ac current gain. I just jumpered mine out. Mark asked me to put it in so he wouldn't have to keep changing resistors.
vdi_nenna
Mike,

Should C5 be polarized? And, can the LED be off the board? Is it being used as a low-noise zener?

Thanks,

Vince
MikeW
C5 is optional, The higher the value the bigger turn on thump. It does not need to be polarized.
The led can be mounted anywhere. It is just to let you know the amp is on.
vdi_nenna
Here's my almost completed mini-a. I'll be finished tonight. I'll post another pic tonight.

So far tested the power supply. 19.0 volts solid!

Finally got around to finalize the 1st mini-a channel (boards were stuffed the second day after they arrived, 'bout half a year ago).

2x12V trannies, 2x68000uf stubby +mkp's for a powersupply and its up and running.
I bought some cheap heatsinks from ebay and 1 channel is completly mounted (incl trannie) to the heatsink (30*15cm).

dc is a bit high though under 100mV so I leave it like that. There is some hum but only audible when your is is next to the woofer. The level of hum dropped considerably after putting some resistors in serie to ground.

Mike thank you for the boards.
