Where to buy parts in australia? - Click HERE for Original Thread
Garbz
Hi all

I'm a Brisbanite (in australia obviously) and i'm looking for a place to buy some parts. I"m looking for some good quality parts, and some other less common parts which don't seem to be availuable through the usual sources.

I'm in the process of building a Gilmore Dynamic headamp, and i'm having dificulties sourcing mainly the fets, and transistors. At the moment i'm buying form the following places:

Jaycars - Lovely guys i know most of the store owners personally. They have a lot of nice cheap gear. Some precicion plugs too liek nutriks headphone sockets, but nothing special only generic caps, resistors and pots.

Tandys - (the australian radioshack) they seem pretty useless and more expensive than Jaycars. They are just a shadow of the US radioshack parent company, and so far have been useless.

Dicksmith - very comercial now, used to be awesom apparenlty but now they are just like tandys.

Texas Instruments - Most of my opamps are burrbrown and TI ship samples, and nonsamples for that matter, world wide. I buy directly and i'm very impressed by their prompt delivery. (and rather intimidated by the Black unmarked pannel vans used by UPS)

RS-Components. - I have yet to buy anything from these guys but they look like a good source of some quality components. They have alps pots, and what they say as precision low tolerance resistors, but i haven't seen brand names, their online catalogue is nothing short of a mess, and they are on the bloody southside, so definatly too far to drive. (at least for me) But i may use these guys to get some alps pots.

THL-Audio - also haven't used these guys yet but they seem to sell branded capacitors (black gate, wima, etc) and resistors, and a lot of other nice gear. Not the transistors i'm looking for though.

So what i have now is a source for a lot of good parts which don't get me very far without the transistors or fets i'm looking for. (2SK109 2SJ389 for the fets) (2SC1815 2SA1015 for the transistors).

Where do others get their components? Also willing to order internationally providing shipping is reasonable.

If they ship to AU, you can usually purchase the solid state devices for Kevin Gilmore's amps at http://www.mcmelectronics.com/

thanks that's a start. I'll have a look at thoes. i'm still waiting for MCMaudio to reply an email i sent them regarding overseas shipping. I also remember that Kevin wrote in the article on headwize that the parts for his amp didn't cover the minimum cost of an order. Mayb this was just for transistors. Ordering all the parts for the amp might infact cover it. If worst comes to worst, i could always find a use for a stepped attenuator :D

Im sure if u asked they would be selling parts for sure plus the owner is a top guy to boot really knowledgable too and has set many aussie SPL records for like single 10 inch woofers he has made and for 6x9's as well. :D

Hope this helps
