After just typing up a long post, I went to the mouse, only to bump mouse button 4. This sent me backwards in the browser and going back forward failed to retrieve the post...sooo. In a nutshell:
Bulbs: Is there any problem with using reduced envelope? They require the same ballast and socket, right? This is looking at the 400w MH at 1000bulbs.
Lenses: Quality of projection with singlet and triplet? What is it? Sharpness to the edges? Sharpness overall?
The fujinon copy lens at Surplus Shed. Would it be able to grab the entire lcd of a QA-1800 (Think between 8 and 10.5", don't know specifics. It will be here Tuesday.). I plan on the lens being 7 to 8' away from the projection screen.
Fresnels: Is there any place that has a selection of them at decent prices?
Let me know if I missed something when I searched here and google. I should type these multi-line posts in notepad :( |

Meant to ask about the quality projected with each lens. What is the difference? Sharpness? |

| I believe it's more focus further from the centre, like you get more focus near the edges with a triplet than a doublet, though I don't have both, but that's what I hear. |

| Well ace claims that the fujinon copy lens has the best quality projection and can focus on larger screens than the fujinon projection lens, but I don't know how big. |

And he is correct when he compares it to the fujinon projection lense which is not designed for screens larger than 5" or such.
SGSeeker, I remember reading somewhere someone testing the copy lens and found it's actual limits (something it wouldn't fully focus - as opposed to just close). It might have been cruser with regards to his SGI 1600SW. But I think more definite info is out there regarding that particular lens. On the flipside the lens is pretty cheap so if you're getting other stuff from surplus shed it's probably worth tossing in the order just to try it out, or for use on another project. |

The reduced form factor lamp should be fine. Which lamp is it btw? We sell fresnel lenses at http://lumenlab.com/store/
They are in stock and ready to ship. |

As far as I know, 1000bulbs only carries two 400w reduced envelope bulbs. Take your pick . I've heard less negative input from people with the Sylvanias (over Philips) so I was going to go with them. Same ballast and socket I'm assuming.
BTW, at Lighting Unlimited, they have the ballast/multi tap/socket in one kit...am I missing something? What is the multi tap they speak of? I'm still pretty clueless in lighting specifics but looking to learn what I can. Google's not helping me out much on this topic. |

| Actually, the entire lighting kit there looks good...but do they only accept paypal? And with your honest opinion, do you know how noisy the ballast HERE is? |

Yeah those are all the same parts I use. To be honest I can't hear the ballast unless I open the projector and put my head close to the ballast; the fan is louder. Go for the EYE lamp, it is much better. Higher burn-in lumens, higher color temp and better performance all around.
The multitap M59 is the the standard 400w ballast. It has inputs that accept several voltages for different countries. They typically come stripped and ready for 120v in the USA.
Lighting Unlimited accepts PayPal. |
