Suitable preamp for Guitar/mic for PC recording - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi all,

I haven't touched electronic circuitry in over 10 years so am really a noob all over again. I certainly can't remember anything about designing circuits an such.

What I am after is to build a very cheap (read CHEAP) preamp for a guitar pickup (acoustic peizo and single coil) and a mic to boost the signal suitable for PC recording.

I'm just messing with ideas at the moment and money is very tight. I have read a little about op amps and JFET amps (tubes are a little excessive at this stage I would have thought) in these pages, but what are the differences?

Any information welcome.

Hello, I made a DIY mixer with jfet and opamp preamps, and jfet preamps have much better sound. I don’t know why, the opamp I used have jfet inputs too but the sound is not the best, I using if I need higher gain (for mic only).

I made my jfet preamp with a dual jfet 2N3958.
