I have a transformer from an old amplifier that I would like to use in a gainclone. It has two sets of secondary outputs. One set consist of two green wires with a 20.25 volts ac between them and another set of two red wires and a yellow. The voltage between the two reds is 71.2 and the voltage between the yellow and each red is 35.5.
Is the center tap yellow wire the 0 volt line refered to in the gainclone faq? What is the difference between ground and the 0 volt line?
Is there anyway to use the 20.25 volt side that doesnt have the center tap in a gc amp? Is the 71.2 volt side to big?
Thanks,

yes the yellow is the centre tap. thing is tho, that gives you 35-0-35. after recifying it's going to be approximately +/-49Volts which is way too high. you should try to get hold of something between an 18-0-18 and 25-0-25 transformer
you can use the 20.25 supply if you built your amp as per the "single supply" schematic inthe datasheet. however this needs a lot more parts and makes it a tad more complex - i'm spretty sure it will affect sound quality too (not that much, but still, the amp won't be as pure as it could) |
