HI folks dumb question ahead........when building a cabinet......for a subwoofer...are screws recommended to whole the joints together???? or would glue alone do just as good.......if you need screws what type of screws to use and how far apart should i place them.......and what are some precautions to use while screwing

It is recommended to use only glue for a subwoofer.

When glueing it together I guess you could use screws to hold it then remove them later. But clamps would probably be better.

Also make sure to use a lot of internal bracing.

What is wrong with using all three? Glue, screws, and clamps?

why not use screws

Shouldn't bracing be from one wall to the other opposite wall, to get a rigid structure?

How do you finish MDF?

You can use just glue. But not just screws. But I would highly recommend using both as the screws help make a tighter joint while the glue sets. And then why bother taking them out.

I like to use countersunk decking screws as they are coarse and grip better. Most importantly, drill pilot holes before screwing to prevent the wood from cracking. I like to place them roughly 15cm apart.

There is Nothing wrong using all three. It just takes
more time. For home use you can use glue only. However,
if you are using your subwoofer on the road, all three methods would be best.

I personally use all three methods.
