The look of your Zv4 reminds me of Plinius, also of NZ.
Great job! When you lift 'em, are you sure your wingspan can span the amps depth?:) |

Thanks everyone for your kind words!
Will be looking at a plexiglass (perspect) cover for the twins later this week and a final submit.

This is what I call cooling down a nice hot amp!
Congrats BQ.
I hope they sound as good as they look!

| nice work!..... what kind of speakers are you using? |
|
|
| Super_BQ |
rebojorge,
Currently using some cheap bookshelf like speakers. I have a brand new still in the box Klipschorns that I won't hear until the new house is finished - sometime next year.

Hey, if they published my A75, you are in like Flynn. Nice work.
Question: Do you get much heat transfer to the front/rear heat sinks? It looks like your side walls are 3 mm or so. Is that enough to keep all sinks roughly the same temp? |

Bob,
The heat is primarily from the middle. When I built my old SoZ, I had the transistors on the very back which not only heated the rear heatsinks but also the front ones quite well. The middle portion was considerably cooler. What was going on? My thoughts was the hot air was moving faster in the middle of the chassis than the front and rear heatsinks. So in the Zen 4, I tried to take advantage of this convection cooling.
I should also say that when I ran the amps balanced, my cdp has balanced outputs and the Bride of SOZ preamp was also in balanced. - these may have been a big influence on the sound of the Zen 4. In my singled ended testing, I used the same CD player and same pre-amp.

Hello BQ
Nice job and thanks for share your projects in your page.
By your pics I canīt figure how you had integrate three sinks per side. What you describe is tipical residual insulation between sinks interface IMHO.
I can suggest you to install a bolted copper plate 3 or 6mm thick with total area of all 3 sinks w/ usual heat grease and attach the mosfets to this copper plate. This can improve heat conduction in a uniform fashion. Yet not 100% as desirable.

Also I suspect that amp cases are too small to make air convection efective.
Sorry for bad english and hope this helps
