I just completed a Rainbow Kit (www.rainbowkits.com) project for their EBAP-2 Audio Stereo Preamp and it does not work as well as I thought it would.

When I turn the volume knob past the mid point the amplification ends and when in the first 1/4 turn down it disorts.

Why does this inverting circuit not work? Anyone familliar with it?

What I am basically looking for is a simple opamp design that will operate to its full potential on 7-9 volts with a 9 volt battery.

It will also have to power an unballanced ECM cartridge ranging from 2 to 9 volts.

What is good/bad about thses designs?

I see one does not have capacitors leading to the ground at the noninverting point. Is that bad?

This preamp looks like a good one but a while back I was warned against putting the pont in the gain feedback loop.

Would there be a better way to make the type of opamp I want to make? Basically something small like soundprofessionls.com offers.

I have rail road tracks across the street from me and want to record the engines. The SPL will probably peak at about 90db or so.

I need the preamp to be able to handle these SPLs without overloading or disorting.

Any help will be great. I really want to build this type of stuff so I can begin record this spring/summer. :)
