Largest Subwoofer? - Click HERE for Original Thread

What is the largest known subwoofer?

I have heard of a 29" subwoofer but the largest I can tell is Ramsdale Audio 27" 103Db and FANE Colossus 24".

ElectroVoice has/had a 30" woofer. Fostex also has a 30".

The Parthenon has a 24" sqaure diaphragm - which has equivelent surface area to >27" dia. (121 dB SPL output at 20 Hz).

And our own DIY Parthenon thread suggests a potential 34" or dual 27" diaphragm to achieve 125 dB @ 20 Hz @ 1 meter.

The above poster is referring to a 34" Audiobahn sub. It is a car sub and handles 5000W. I always wanted to build a box for it and call it a coffee table for my room. Here is a link where you can buy one:

I always wanted to hear a driver in action such as doc had in his lab in back to the future. (Marty strums a powerchord and blows himself across the room.)

Thats the closest thing Ive ever seen!

These URLs are a great resource! If the Mrs. starts making sounds like she thinks I'm getting extreme Ill print out this stuff and leave it on the kitchen table where she will see it. Makes me look soooo moderate. :D

Yeah until your curiosity gets the better of you and you decide to build one, then play a power chord through it and watch the SO zoom across the room:xeye:

There was, once upon a time, a 36" driver. EV or JBL, as I recall.
If it's cabinet size you're looking for, that's a whole 'nother ball of wax. People have been building cabinets into houses for decades, either under the floor or in the walls. Once in a blue moon, you'll find something built into the ceiling.
That said, any self-respecting planar or electrostatic driver can trounce such a wimpy cone if all you're looking for is driver surface area...and play with far, far lower distortion, too.
Yes (someone's bound to complain--they always do), the excursion will be less for the planar/electrostat, but that can be offset by making the driver even larger.
