Hello,
I'm currently looking for a good lcd projection panel. Now i can buy a SHARP QA-2500 projection panel (including all cables, power supply, etc.) for 500Euros (includes shipping).
BUT ...
Now my question is, and i hope you guys can give me an answer :
After browsing the forums here there seems to be quite some different meanings about the SHARP QA-2500. Some say its the best panel ever build, others say its ****.
Can someone just tell me if this would be a good buy or not ?
Would be much appreciated ...
Thanx in advance,

| 500 euro's!!!!! Man thats a lot of money. Wy don't you buy a second hand projector? I can't believe you are doing that. I won't. But ok thats my opinion. |

Thanx for the replies you guys.
'To The Alchemist' : Yes, i know it's a lot of money, that's why i wanna be 100% sure it's a great lcd panel. Second, i'm not buying a second hand projector at the moment because it costs me a lot more to maintain. One new lamp would cost me 300-500$, instead of 5-10$ for a new lamp in an overhead projector. So it's now one investment in a super lcd panel and lots of great movie and game time at a low price. :)
'To Video Freak' : Thanx for the great positive feedback. I'm getting more and more convinced of buying it. :)
Hopefully some more comments can draw me over the line ...
Thanx guys
Greetz

thats like 700$ right..?
wow i think your ...umm generous with money :)
I bought 3 Commercial projectors all SXGA and one UXGA fo less than 700$ shipped.
Sharp Qa 2500 is nice...but not that nice in my opinion ...but if you like it then its ok :) |

| Same here. You can do much better than that with 500 euros. |
|
|
| Video Freak |
| I agree its a chunk of Money But at least its prebuilt and not a mess like so many setups when people tear things apart and such. |

Yeah, there is also the risk of breaking it, and not knowing if its stripable in the case of the above link. Most of you can put it back together and return it for a full refund if this happens but I cant.
My fresh new view is like this. If your going to build your own projector why not build one where you would save a looot of money. For instance by building a uxga native projector that would cost 20k and up like this one:
http://shopmiracle.com/plc-uf10.html
Having said that, at this point after breaking one $400 lcd I am not confident nor financially ready enough to try a $800 lcd strip. Unless I can just return it if I find its not stripable fully. I buy my stuff from Paraguay where they dont have that kind of thing. |

hi,
in my mind, that is way too much money. i have used vga, svga, xga panels
with the best oph's. no way is that panel going to compare to a commercial
projector.
$6 per bulb every 50 hrs is no deal.
i just picked up a nice svga projector for $100. many great deals on ebay.
saw a low hours svga projector in anvil case, plus two new spare MH bulbs,
and it only went for $300. that's about 250 euro. anyhow, you get the
idea.
Hi Dracul,
You have a good idea there with the dell 2001fp monitor. why the heck waste
ones time building low res stuff, that costs tons of money, when one can buy
much better working used stuff.
now, your right on with building a uxga projector. to purchase a new one would
cost a fortune. here there is a very good payback for diy. i'm going to try out the sgi 1600sw route first. but i have actually purchased a couple of the dell 2001fps
last week. great monitor with the newest LG panel inside. also has s-video in.
1600x1200 dvi. i can't wait for my large fresnels to arrive from Cruser. maybe
i will be the first to build the 1600x1200 projector:)
LOL. i took a look at the ebay link. $760 plus $50 shipping. kink of a joke, when
i could get them for 720 including shipping from dell.
i don't have the guts yet to tear it apart yet. there are no screws and its a pressure
fit case. i hate to start marking up the case work. also, i'm not the kind of scum
that would take it apart, maybe damage it and return it. if i break it, i keep it.
STB, good luck, which ever route you take. but you may want to compare the
quality of a projection panel on oph, to a modern projector first. your talking
about a lot of money, and you may not be happy with the image quality.
i'm assuming that your desire for the sharp panel, is to watch dvd movies on,
and not business use for data projection. all the best.
sincerely,
tony |

| Well I think the Image quality is really good on the sharp lcd, I personally have one, and am quite happy with it and I dont have to worry about anyone touching it or accidently moving a lcd and breaking a cable, there has to be something said for Piece of mind, and frankly If he bought it used it for 5 months and then wanted to move on he could setup a ebay account and resell it. Just my opinion. |

| i have a sharp QA1150 and i'm very impressed with the quality i'm getting thus far. i know the 2500 has a much higher res so i would say go for it... but try to get the price down a bit. thats way too much. |

| I think what everyone here neglects to see is that things like lcd's go for more money in places like Germany etc, I just stumbled across Ebay.de which I believe is the German Ebay and I saw a proxima 822c go for 380.00 US Dollars and heck even Negative sells LCd's like that( 640 x480) for 250.00 here in the USA, Im personally Just a person whom says Start off " safe" and then if you wanna move up then just resell( whom here has ruined something in DIY it sucks I have and I know others have, BTW I just sold One of My sharp 2500's( I had 2) for 550.00 here locally in the paper( college books for next semester, well maybe 2 Bio books are crazy expensive) and I have YEARSSSSSSSSS to go.. |

HEEEYY!! jeezz! :( I dont sell em for 250...I never even ad that model..lol I had an 820 and it went for 125$ my auctions dont ALWAYS go high ya know jeez lol
in the end 500$ for a projection panel only helps the seller not buyer... resolutions mean nothing in projection panels they all look the same..thats what I notice many think or know their experience to differ.Only thing a panel is good for is movies not high res apps any..IMO :) |
|
|
| Video Freak |
| OK negative now you confuse me" resolution means nothing" how do you think this, you always talk about " CRT with its High resolution is great" etc etc, If It didnt make a difference then why wouldnt we all Just stick to a 640 x 480 panel and call it good for life, C-mon of course resolution makes a difference...........Anyone knows that, IE more dots = less screendoor etc I hope you seriously didnt mean it as you typed it. |

I said when it comes to panels res means nothing and it doesnt, no matter what res u have u still get screen door.
res isnt a high point for me on CRT I love CRTs for their high ratio the high res is only an added enjoyment :)
I'd take a VGA res 15,000:1 ratio CRT over an XGA 150:1 ratio Sharp Qa-2500 any day..lol even though VGA CRTs are very rare :)
Projections arent bad, they have their purpose and I still use em...but 500 euros for one is crazy..lol I jsut bought a CRT the other on ebay for 265$ shipped and its in great condiont...anywho it all comes down to preferences to each their own :D |

Hey guys,
Thanx all for giving your opinion. I must say that i changed my mind and i'm not gonna buy it for 500$. It's indeed a bit too much, and if it should give me problems than it's certainly not worth it. If it was garuanteed a 100% perfect operational unit always than i would still consider, but it seems that the panel sometimes just won't work. (based on other threads here)
I'm still the highest bidder for 300$ for now but the minimum price isn't reached yet, so if he's willing i will buy it for 300$ but i doubt it.
I've found another SHARP QA-2500 at 200$, but it has no power supply, so unless is can find one (which also seems to be very hard), i'm gonna pass on that one too.
For now i hope i can get my hands on a Nview Viewframe Spectra for 100$.
Anyway, i'll keep you guys updated.
Anyone suggestions for what type of overhead projector i should look ? How many lumens do i need minimum ? What is the best brand to look for ?
Thanx
Greetz

hey STB, Nice eBaying! you completely OWNED those other bidders! lol
try asking the seller is he will sell it to you depsite the reserve....I know that sellers hes an *** but maybe you will have better luck with him :) |
|
|
| Video Freak |
| LOL how does one " Know" a seller to be a " ***" Man this ebay **** seems almost too dramatic like a soap opera, as for Buying one without a PS I wouldnt recommend it the Adapter itself has a crazy connection(not a nice 5 pin din like proximas)( was this a Sharp marketing thing hummmmmmmmm I think so) Stupid Sharp:rolleyes: :D |
