Anyone tried this yet?

Or know how these screens work? or how to make them?
nmd_sb
hmm, looks like plexiglass.
it could be HUD similar to the ones used in airplanes
Unclebob
Yep, the site says that its two sheets with a special layer inbetween.

Just trying to find out if its a potential DIY project to use with my projector for games....
mindless_fool
anyone have any idea what that "special layer" is?
ace3000_1
i think u will find that special layer is a gas.
freeupyermind
they said its a film
Lowjacker
almost looks like it would be a nuisance for watching whatever you wanted to watch......
ap0the0sis
thats not for home theater use. that is for special uses... like for displays n such.... movie magic!
Unclebob
Or gaming....

Or more inportantly for me which is my interest 3D images using shutter glasses.

If its two sheets of acrylic the film must be someting common else every one would be a one off and their cannot be that big a market.

yeah only good if it has 120hz refresh rate or above otherwise u get a torn image, id like to use shutter glasses on a lcd projector, dlp too infact but the refrest rates just arent there to suport it, there are some projectors made for this but they arent cheap.

like I said, I think that this is only for special uses. even if you were to use it for gaming you can still see what is behind the screen so if will take your focus off the game. you can see in the pics that colors and contrast/black levels suffer too.

and if you were to put a white piece of something to block the things behind the screen then you just minus well project onto a black-out cloth screen or parkland screen.

Where? ive never seen them, theres been alot of talk about it but no actual working model, with a lcd projector u cant use shutter glasses anyway, u have to use polarised glases, i looked all of this up once before on the net, and im only going on what a pro company uses and recomends, i honestly havnt tried it , so realy im only going on their word.

I have seen these screens at many exhibitions. Basically they are made of a layer of LCD material between two sheets of acrylic. When a current is passed through them they are transparent, and when the current is switched off, they turn slightly opaque, and can be projected onto. The ones I have seen have a quite slow response time, maybe 1/2 sec from off to on, and vice-versa.

Boy i bet it would look real 3D if you put like 5 layers togather and programed it so be like a real 3D apple. I've thought about trying this with lcd, but this looks better.

here is the site i got my info from on 3d projection a while ago, there is enough info in here to see what works with what, in various configerations.

Bobcat, yeah, at the moment in the local mall they have a 3d lcd by X3D, it looks hot, id say its about 50inches in size, its a real hot display, but they have some filter screen over it though with big screen door, so its not the best either, i guess in a few years 2d will be gone for life as tech takes over once again lol.
